WWE published a storyline-driven report today detailing Christian's torn pectoral muscle, which led to a surgical procedure last Thursday in Alabama with Dr. James Andrews.
WWE wrote Christian off TV last Friday on Smackdown , yet had not mentioned details on Christian's injury until today.
Christian said in WWE's story he expects to be "fully recovered in four months." WWE typically over-plays the length of time a wrestler is scheduled to be out. When Christian had the surgery, it was initially believed he would be out five-to-seven months.
To promote current TV storylines, WWE is attributing the injury to Alberto Del Rio. WWE is trying to get over his cross-arm breaker finisher as the storyline cause of Christian's muscle tear.
Christian, who has been durable throughout his career avoiding major injuries, noted it's the first time he's had any type of surgery.
"They told me that they were about to put the anesthesia in my IV. I expected to go under gradually...and the next thing I remember was opening my eyes and Dr. Andrews telling me that the surgery was finished. It was so weird. It was the craziest thing I’d ever experienced," he said.
