Knowshon Moreno, Logan Gray Return Punts in Practice for Georgia

NC Nighthawk@NC Nighthawk (my Xbox gamertag)Analyst IAugust 15, 2008

Mark Richt let it slip during his post-practice media briefing Thursday that the Bulldogs have been using tailback Knowshon Moreno on punt returns. And that wasn’t the end of the surprises. He also revealed quarterback Logan Gray was returning punts.

My response and analysis is that I suggest to only utilize Knowshon Moreno as a punt (or kickoff returner) sparingly, not regularly. Georgia does not need to overspend his energy for a game or increase his chances for an injury.

For example, I would have Moreno return a punt when a big play is needed in the fourth quarter to win the game.

This next point has nothing to do with this story or article, but if my old memory serves me correctly, the Bulldogs did not use Herschel Walker as a punt returner or a kickoff returner, but I recall Herschel returning kickoffs for the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL.
