It didn’t take long for the Royals to break out of their 18-inning scoreless streak against the White Sox. A Paul Konerko miscue and a Jose Guillen seeing eye single had the Royals on the board and Lance Broadway sweating it out. But the newest member of the Sox starting five knuckled down.
After a shaky second inning Broadway cruised all the way into the sixth when he left the game with one out and none on. An outing that started with ominous signs ended with smiles and high-fives. At least for this week the White Sox fifth starter question has been answered.
- B/R Ticket Guide
Lance Broadway, in his second major league start, picked up his second major league victory. He didn’t dominate but he looked every bit the major league pitcher. He had the Royals off balance and they had a tough time squaring up his moving fastball. Broadway even pitched over an Orlando Cabrera error in the second.
Cabrera continues to bring his fool’s gold glove more often than not for the Sox, but his young teammate picked him up this time.
Broadway gave the Sox their first series sweep in what feels like forever and capped a 7-3 home-stand. Today was the casting call, audition, and opening night all rolled into one for the young right-hander. At least for a day Broadway lived up to his billing and the Sox starting staff continued to roll.

Lance looks like he is ready to take the wheel as the White Sox fifth man in the rotation. However, his only two starts at the major league level have both come against the Royals. I'd like to see him play a different team before I give him my full trust, although, he's been impressive so far.

I agree to some extent, though the Royal lineup is not all that terrible. Kenny and Ozzie goofed by sending Broadway down so they could get bullpen help for the series against the punchless A's who play in a pitcher's park Now Broadway can't come back or ten days so the Clayton Richard gets the start tonight against King Felix. Odd choice, I would have liked Lance to get into the rythme of being a major league starter.
