The dominoes continue to fall.
Hours after the AP announced that a Chinese news agency reported back in November that gymnast He Kexin was 13, which would have made her ineligible to compete in the Summer games, Kexin failed her driver's test, fueling further speculation that she and Chinese authorities are lying about her actual age.
Fred Gollish of the Rockport, Minnesota Department of Motor Vehicles, where Kexin took her exam, said he's not concerned about conspiracy theories and the growing international media circus. "I just give the test. You hit a cone, you fail," he said.
In addition to hitting a barrier, Gollish claimed Kexin struggled with turning in reverse and looked "uncomfortable" using her rear-view mirror.
"She might be able to perform multiple difficult release moves and holds on the uneven bars, but parallel parking's a whole 'nother thing," he added. "And that's 'Gollish,' by the way, with two 'l's.'
When asked what proof of age Kexin provided in signing up for her test, Nancy Bravis, a DMV manager, said the gymnast used her passport. "It was written in Chinese, but she assured me it said 16," said Bravis.
Calls to Chinese gymnastics officials have not been immediately returned.
