Green Bay Packers Better off Favre-less
When the Green Bay Packers decided to trade Brett Favre, it might have been the smartest move the franchise has ever made since acquiring the future Hall-of-Famer. This may sound like such an outlandish statement, but it is a correct statement. Favre has been a great player for many years, but it is time for this franchise to move foward and get rid of the shadow Favre has casted over them for the past two years. He is a great player, a top ten quarterback of all time, and a great embassader of the game. On the other hand, he also single handedly threw the Packers chances of reaching the Super Bowl last year by doing what he does best, throw interceptions. The Packers need a new look and attitude that does not include the erratic throwing and improvised play Favre has displayed throughout his career. Although Aaron Rogers has not proved himself in the NFL, he has the ability to do what is asked of him and run the offense the way it should be run. The Green Bay Packers have a solid defense that proved themselves time and time again last year, and they deserve the spotlight. The Packers also found a running back last year, Ryan Grant, that was good enough for them to re-sign for a multi year deal worth almost $30 million. The Packers also have a solid go to wide receiver in Donald Driver who can make plays. With the running back/wide receiver combo the Packers have, it should boost Aaron Rodgers' confidence enough to carry this team to the level Brett Favre carried them. People look at Brett Favre as this god who can never be replaced and the franchise will crumble without him. Let me remind everyone that a similar situation occurred with a team called the San Fransisco 49ers. A legend named, Joe Montana, retired and an unproven player stepped into the position. His name was, Steve Young. It is a different senario obviously, but the point is the person behind a legend can easily become a legend. The Packers need to put the Brett Favre era behind them and create a new identity. As good of a player Brett Favre was and still might be, the Green Bay Packers are better off now without him.
