Rumors have surfaced that Maple Leafs defenseman Bryan McCabe has waived his no-trade clause. Many teams are interested, but reports say he may be heading to the Florida Panthers.
This seems like a long shot to me. McCabe brings a heavy price tag. He is scheduled to make $4.15 million in each of the last two years of his contract. But as a Panthers fan I would be excited if they got this move done, because it seems all but certain defenseman Jay Bouwmeester will be gone next year.
- B/R Ticket Guide
The rumored trade is Panthers defensemen Mike Van Ryn and Karlis Skrastins for Bryan McCabe. I personally don't have a problem getting rid of Mike Van Ryn, but please don't trade Karlis Skrastins. Skrastins was the Panthers most solid defenseman near the end of the year.
McCabe had an injury-plagued season, but still managed to accumulate 23 points. A pairing of Bouwmeester and McCabe would allow for more offensive zone possession. Even if it is for only one year it would be fun to watch.
It should be interesting how this rumor turns out. I hope the Panthers and Leafs get a deal done, but I don't see it happening.

Apparently there are reports that a deal is completed and it is just waiting on the Sept 1st bonus to be paid to McCabe so Florida is not on the hook for it.

I have also heard what Andrew is saying, except as part of the deal the Leafs will pay the $2 million now, to get the deal done.
As for the deal listed above. I just can't see them getting Van Ryn and Skrastins in the deal. I mean, you can never have enough defenseman, but the Leafs already have a log jam with McCabe here. Adding another D-man wouldn't make much sense, at least not to me anyway.
But hey, ship him out, and I'll be happy.

The deal is McCabe and Leaf forward for Van Ryn. It is a salary dump. Skrastins not in the trade.
