Problems for the Flames:
The Calgary Flames had the fewest third period goals last year. No wonder they missed the playoffs.
The Flames had a league low of 132 power plays last year. The other problem was winning when their opponents score first. They were only 7-21-4 when the other team scored first. Another thing that killed them was that they didn’t have a good record when scoring first. They were 33-11-6 when they scored first. They should have had a higher amount of wins when they scored first.
Good things for the Flames:
There were little good things last year for the Flames which forced them to deal some players out. There were only two teams that scored first more times than the Flames last year.
Off Season notes:
Olli Jokinen and Alex Tanguy should add depth at the offensive end of the rink.
How Calgary should fair this year:
Calgary should fair pretty well considering that they did bring in some help at the offensive end. Tanguy and Jokinen are known scorers. If the Flames could have a better third period and if the Flames could work on drawing power plays this year they should be able to make the playoffs.
