Why Is Georgia Struggling As Badly As They Are and What Can They Do About It?

I am probably like the rest of the Bulldog Nation thinking we had a good shot at a decent season, maybe producing a 10 win season.  Why not, we had a highly recruited red shirt freshman at QB who had to be better than Joe Cox, a starting o-line with all 5 starters back, A.J. Green, loaded at tight end, a good running back duo, and a defense that had to be better than last years.  But our Bulldog dreams have come crashing down like a ton of bricks after four games and an 0-3 start to our conference schedule.  I wasn't going to hit the panic button until we lost to a motivated and LESS talented Mississippi State team.  Which leads me to the question, what in the world is wrong.

I'll start with our offensive line.  It's offensive really.  Pun intended.  They are over rated.  They can't run block at all.  They still pass protect pretty well, mostly.  But to keep the pressure off a young QB we have to run successfully.  Opponents are putting 8 in the box and we aren't responding well to it.

Secondly, AJ Green is missing off this team, well until the Colorado game.  His game changing ability is missing.  UGA coaching staff stubbornly wants to continue to run even though it isn't as effective as I thought it would be.

Our coaching has been suspect at best.  First of all, why is a former running back a receiver's coach and a former receiver a running back's coach.  I would think that a running back would be better at coaching running backs.  Just saying.  I could be wrong there.  What I don't like is the lack of originality in the play calling or any adjusting from the offensive side of the ball.  Come on Bobo, if they continue to put 8 in the box, what about throwing 3 or 4 wide outs on the field and run from the shotgun.  I think Murray can handle it.  He's got heart and talent.  Why are we running up the middle with a 5'7" running back up the middle.  Good Grief!  Point is, we aren't adjusting to what defenses are throwing at us or are we using our talent to it's potential.  Don't get me started about blindly running plays either.  We are better than that.  We are not a middle school football staff.  UGA is paying your staff millions to go into a game with a solid game plan!

Our defense hasn't been too hot either though I'm willing to cut some slack since it is a new scheme.  Though I think the staff ought to adjust a little to the talent we have until the defensive unit is properly staffed to run a 3-4.

Honestly, the way we played against Mississippi State, I don't see more than 2 more wins off of this team.  The coaching staff needs to look hard within themselves and make the necessary changes or we are last in the SEC and that isn't what we expect.  Use the talent properly.  Adjust to what Defenses are doing.  Motivate your players.  Motivate yourselves!
