Fantasy Baseball Effects of the Adam Dunn Trade

Jonathan BentzAnalyst IAugust 12, 2008

The Major League leader in home runs is on the move. Adam Dunn has been traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks for pitcher Dallas Buck and two players to be named later.

Similar to the Anaheim Angels last month, the Arizona Diamondbacks posted a personal ad titled “Desperately Seeking Slugger” during the trade deadline.  When they didn’t get their ad answered by July 31, the Dbacks hit the waiver wire - just like you do when trades don’t go your way - and added Dunn.

Tied for the ML-lead in home runs, Dunn has never been much of a hitter for average… or anything other than home runs, actually. Playing for the Diamondbacks and batting around guys like Conor Jackson, Mark Reynolds, and Justin Upton (once he returns from the DL) should help his runs and RBI production down the stretch.

Dunn will bat cleanup and be in the starting lineup in right field tonight for the Dbacks. Daily lineup leagues should continue to start Dunn, moving forward. He also stays in the NL, so NL-only GMs don’t lose their all-or-nothing slugger.

The right field wall is 10 feet deeper at Chase Field than the Great American ballpark, but it shouldn’t effect Dunn home run production too greatly down the stretch.
