WWE SummerSlam 2008 headlined by Cena, Batista and the return of the Undertaker

As we enter the dog days of summer, one thing is certain; WWE's annual late summer pay-per-view, SummerSlam, is just around the corner.  This year's event is headlined by the first ever match between Raw superstars John Cena and Dave Batista and the return of the legendary Undertaker to SmackDown.

The Undertaker will return to action in a Hell in a Cell match against the Rated-R Superstar, Edge.  The deterioration of the Edge-Vickie Guerrero love affair that has dominated the SmackDown storylines over the past several months will reach its climax with the reinstatement of the Undertaker this Sunday at SummerSlam.  For months, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero has been using her power to keep Edge at the top of the SmackDown kingdom.  During the course of her tenure as GM, Edge has held the World Heavyweight Championship belt and forced the abrupt retirement of the Undertaker.  As the the two lovebirds, Edge and Vickie Guerrero, were about to say "I do" with millions of people watching on SmackDown it was revealed that Edge was having an affair with the wedding planner.  Hell have no fury like a woman scorned; Vickie immediately reinstated the Undertaker and put him in a match with her former fiance, Edge.  Vickie did not put them in a traditional wrestling match.  The Undertaker and Edge will do battle in the most brutal, vile and sadistic match that the sports-entertainment industry has to offer: Hell in a Cell.

Prediction:  The Undertaker was forced into retirement due to a loss to Edge at the One Night Stand pay-per-view in June.  Undertaker looks to seek revenge and beat Edge to a bloody pulp all around the cell.  This has been a heated rivalry for quite some time on SmackDown that was put on hold due to Edge and Vickie Guerrero forcing the Undertaker into retirement.  Look for the Undertaker to finish off this rivalry with a huge victory that will not lack blood and violence.

Raw has gone through some changes since the Draft in June and one of them was the hiring of Mike Adamle as the new General Manager.  Mike was previously a broadaster on ECW and made several errors while commentating and lets just say he has not connected well with WWE fans thus far in his career.  He is trying to change this and just may be on his way to doing so by announcing John Cena vs. Batista at SummerSlam, the first match he has assigned as Raw's GM.  John Cena and Dave Batista have been wrestling in WWE since 2002 and yet have never faced each other one on one yet in their illustrious careers.   They have held the WWE Championship six times between them and are two of the most dominant WWE superstars of this decade.  The winner of this match figures to be a serious threat to be the number one contender for the WWE Championship.

Prediction:  Both wrestlers are known for their sheer power and strength and are not known as the best technical wrestlers in WWE.  This figures to be a straight up brawl and street fight with Batista and Cena trying to over power one another.  Batista has the size advantage standing at 6'5" and 290 lbs compared to Cena, who is 6'1" and 240 lbs.  Logic would say Batista has an advantage in this bout but the WWE creative team has been in love with Cena and favoring him since his arrival to WWE in 2002.  Cena wins in a close won.

WWE's SummerSlam is live Sunday, August 17th on pay-per-view.
