MLB, Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres, Game Recap

Jeff Suppan pitched a gem tonight for the Milwaukee Brewers. He lasted eight strong and he struck out three. He also gave up four hits, two walks and two runs via the long ball. Suppan also scored once after he drew a walk in the seventh.

The San Diego Padres, however, struck first when Kevin Kouzmanoff hit a solo shot to left center in the second, his 18th of the year. Mike Cameron answered for the Brew Crew in the third, when he launched his 19th into the left field stands to make it a 1-1 game.

Prince Fielder decided to add some insurance in the fourth, when he blasted a three-run bomb into right, his 27th this season. Jody Gerut tried to get the home team back in it when he hit his 12th homer of the year to center, but it wasn't enough. Gabe Kapler drove in a run for Brew City in the seventh inning to provide us with the final score of 5-2, in favor of the NL Wild Card leaders.

This was the Brewers' seventh straight win, which includes a four-game sweep against Washington in Milwaukee. This was also the 23rd save for Salomon Torres.

The win stretched Milwaukee's lead in the NL Wild Card race to four games, as St. Louis lost to the Marlins. The Brewers win also put the Crew three games back of the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central since the Cubs' game at Atlanta was postponed due to inclement weather.

The Brewers will look to clinch a series win tomorrow when they send CC Sabathia (6-0, 1.58 ERA). San Diego will look to snatch a win in So Cal as Jake Peavy (8-8, 2.68 ERA) takes the mound.
