Controversial 32-year-old Shoaib Akhtar has been named in Pakistan's preliminary squad for the ICC Champions Trophy next month.
The fast bowler hasn't played for Pakistan since last December, and his inclusion in the squad comes one month after the Pakistan Cricket Board removed him from their training camp due to an unpaid fine.
- B/R Ticket Guide
He was ordered to pay a fine of just under $100,000 in order to be considered for selection by the PCB.
Many Pakistan cricket fans have questioned his inclusion in the squad, and there are doubts over his fitness.
There are also doubts over the fitness off all-rounder Shadid Afridi, who injured his wrist in June, and Akhtar's fellow fast bowler Umar Gul.

Yes indeed the ICC Champions Trophy has been postponed until October 2009. This is because several countries are reluctant to visit Pakistan for security reasons.
Thanks for informing me that it was delayed Salaar.

Thats the reason they are giving but it's not completely true..sources say South Africa pulled out because their players were tired after the England series and their excuse was security..Ironically South Africa were in Pakistan..some months ago..last cricketing season.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if countries were using that as an excuse, especially South Africa following their 5-week series with England.
