Virginia Tech's basketball team has been dealt yet another difficult blow.
Senior forward J.T. Thompson tore his ACL in a pick-up game monday and will now miss the season following surgery.
Thompson has been a crucial player off the bench for the Hokies finishing fourth on the team in scoring last season with 7.3 points per game to go along with 4.6 rebounds.
The Hokies are already likely without the services of redshirt sophomore transfer Allan Chaney who fainted during an approved off-season workout in what is likely related to a heart abnormality. Chaney is out indefinitely.
The health issues leave Tech with only three true big men on the roster. Senior forward Jeff Allen will lead the way along with sophomore Cadarian Raines (who also has a nagging foot injury) and junior Victor Davila.
Virginia Tech opens its season Friday November 12 in Cassell Coliseum against Campbell.
