Michael Vick To Start Week 2 for Philadelphia Eagles vs. Detroit Lions

This isn't exactly breaking news, but it's news nonetheless.

First, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer went out on a limb (more like a branch that could hold a family of gorillas) and guessed that Kevin Kolb would not be ready by Sunday and that Michael Vick would take over as the starting quarterback.

Then, he apparently had a "source" confirm his theory.

"Michael Vick will start Sunday against the Lions, according to a team source," McLane wrote, "confirming what was widely expected."

Saying it was "widely expected" is a bit of an understatement. I'm not sure there was anyone holding out hope that Kolb would actually be ready to go after failing the team's concussion test twice this week.

Kolb did, however, get cleared to at least watch film, so he spent his Thursday morning doing juts that at the NovaCare complex. Stewart Bradley, according to McLane, was seen doing some light workouts. The fact that the same cannot be said for Kolb seems to confirm Reid's thinking that Bradley was further ahead of Kolb.

Quick digression: Doesn't that show just how unpredictable concussions are? Bradley is disoriented to the point that he can't walk, but he actually has an outside chance of playing only one week later. Kolb, on the other hand, was initially believed to have a jaw injury and has almost no shot of playing Sunday.

It just goes to show we have a lot to learn in the way of concussions. But, back to the point.

Vick has taken all the snaps with the starters and, for the first time since 2006, is preparing like he's going to be the starter. It has to be something of a dream come true for Vick, and an absolute nightmare for a young Detroit Lions team looking to rebound from a tough loss.

The only question now is whether the "Vick era" lasts just one game or not.
