August 11, 2008

Here is a recap of Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 15 of the 2008 College Football season:

1. Florida Gators, 13-0

2. Missouri Tigers, 13-0

3. Utah Utes, 12-0

4. Arizona State Sun Devils, 11-1

5. West Virginia Mountaineers, 11-1

6. Texas Tech Red Raiders, 12-1

7. Kansas Jayhawks, 10-2

8. Georgia Bulldogs, 10-2

9. Ohio State Buckeyes, 10-2

10. Boise State Broncos, 11-1

Now, it's time to move on to Week 3 of the 2008 college football bowl season.

Key Games in Week 3 of the Bowl Season (Friday, January 2, 2009 through Thursday, January 8, 2009):

Allstate Sugar Bowl (Friday, January 2, 2009):

Clemson (11-2) vs. Georgia (10-2) (in New Orleans)

Well, this is what it SHOULD have been in the Sugar Bowl, LAST SEASON! However, it is better late than never... as the No. 12 Clemson Tigers and the No. 8 Georgia Bulldogs face off in the Allstate Sugar Bowl, at the Superdome!

After getting off to a 10-0 start, the Clemson Tigers looked like they were going to make a run at the BCS National Championship Game.

However, as Clemson has done in the past two seasons... they stumbled down the stretch, losing two of their final three games, heading into the Sugar Bowl!

On the other hand, the Georgia Bulldogs head into the Sugar Bowl with a 10-2 record, and winning eight of their final nine games... for the second straight season!

Unfortunately, it looks to me like this is setting up for a repeat of last season's Sugar Bowl. In the end, I expect the Georgia Bulldogs to CRUSH the Clemson Tigers, by about FOUR or FIVE TOUCHDOWNS... as Clemson goes down without a fight!

Winner: Georgia

Tostitos Fiesta Bowl (Monday, January 5, 2009):

Boise State (11-1) vs. Utah (12-0) (in Glendale, Arizona)

This is the first time that a BCS Bowl Game features TWO BCS Busters! In fact, BOTH of these BCS Busters are ranked in the Top 10... as the No. 10 Boise State Broncos take on the No. 3 Utah Utes, in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl!

Also, BOTH of these BCS Busters have a previous victory in the Fiesta Bowl. Four seasons ago, the Utah Utes CRUSHED the Pittsburgh Panthers, 35-7... while the Boise State Broncos defeated the Oklahoma Sooners 43-42, in OVERTIME, just two seasons ago!

Well, the Utah Utes have been VERY DOMINANT this season... as senior quarterback Brian Johnson led the Utes to an UNDEFEATED record, on his way to winning the Heisman Trophy.

The most improbable matchup and least likely scenario is your Fiesta Bowl. That would be the least watched game in Bowl history. I can imagine people would welcome a Missouri-Florida title game.

I'm impressed to see you have the Clemson crowd going down once again when it matters. Why did you match West Va and Va Tech in the Orange Bowl? Aren't you afraid some fan will be hurt?

I'm glad to see you are continuing with the Jimson Poll and that regardless of who wins these meaningless BCS title games you have the true champion as the Jayhawks of Kansas. Certainly we've never had to accuse you of being biased.

Anyway, this is one of the great series we've seen and I truly enjoyed it.

I couldn't agree more with your comments... But, that's just how my series played out, lol :)

I matched up West Virginia and Virginia Tech, in the Orange Bowl... because West Virginia was the Big East Champions, while Virginia Tech was the ACC Champions!

And NO, I am NOT afraid that some fan will be hurt :)

And the most ridiculous statement of the year: That unbeaten Missouri will somehow split it's National Title with an unbeaten Mountain West team.

So far in practice this summer Florida has already lost an astounding FIVE players for the season to ACLs.

Gators sophomore offensive lineman Jim Barrie and freshman linebacker Brendan Beal were the fourth and fifth players to go down.

Tight end Cornelius Ingram, who turned down the NFL to return for his senior season, tore his left ACL during Florida’s second day of practice last week. Redshirt junior Dorian Munroe, a projected starter at safety, and senior safety John Curtis, a backup, tore ACLs in July. Highly touted safety T.J. Lawrence has also suffered a shoulder injury and is out indefinitely.

How in the world are you still picking the Gators as #1???????

Brad, of all those injuries you listed - only one of them was to a returning starter (Cornelius Ingram). Monroe did not start in 2007. The fact that Monroe did not start for such an awful defense speaks to his level of play. I think the Gators will miss the depth he provides more than his impact as a starter.

The only returning starter that was injured (CI) is at least somewhat replaceable because Florida has the #1 TE recruit from 2006 waiting in the wings.

OK, Jimson, I have to say I like Part 16 could be the best of all your articles. Having mulled it over for a while now I give it the edge over 17 & 18 because of clarity of the issues. You do get a special no-prize for having the guts to name the national championship game here in August with #18.

Having Kansas defeat Southern Cal is just something of a pick of the century if it comes about.

You can't be serious. There's no way a 1-loss Boise State makes the BCS if there's a 0-loss Utah. Also no way Utah would get #1 votes. Or that they will beat BYU (let alone Oregon State and Michigan).

Did you watch the Utah-BYU game last season???

Utah SHOULD have won that game... However, the game THIS SEASON, will be AT Utah! Actually, I would be somewhat surprised... IF Utah LOST to BYU this season, lol :)

And by the way, what makes you think that Michigan (or even Oregon State) will beat Utah???

I can EASILY CLAIM that... Washington has a BETTER CHANCE, to defeat BYU, lolz :)

"LOLZ"? Wow, hard to argue with a 14-year old. BYU doubled up Utah last year in yards, but missed a field goal and dropped a TD pass, and that was with the Cougars playing with their #1 QB, RB, and WR injured. This year won't be that close. And Oregon State beat Utah, what, 36-3 last year? They'll make it 2-for-2 this season. Utah does have a chance to beat Michigan though. The problem with Utah is that since Urban Meyer left, their best conference finish was tied for 3rd, their second best 4th place, and their best record still included 4 losses, their second best 5. They still have a ways to go. Besides, BYU beat Utah in Salt Lake the last time they played there, and 3 of the last 4.

"Wow, hard to argue with a 14-year old."

      Actually, I'M A MAN... I'M 20!!!

"BYU doubled up Utah last year in yards, but missed a field goal and dropped a TD pass, and that was with the Cougars playing with their #1 QB, RB, and WR injured. This year won't be that close."

Actually, I agree that the game won't be that close this year... BUT I also have Utah winning the game, lol :)

Remember, the game will be in Salt Lake City this year!

"And Oregon State beat Utah, what, 36-3 last year? They'll make it 2-for-2 this season."

Well, that was with QB Brian Johnson being injured... Since you want to use the injury card (to explain why the game between BYU and Utah was close last year)!

"Utah does have a chance to beat Michigan though."

And this is (by NO means), an UPSET... IF this does happen, lolz :)

"The problem with Utah is that since Urban Meyer left, their best conference finish was tied for 3rd, their second best 4th place, and their best record still included 4 losses, their second best 5. Actually, BYU only beat Utah in 2 of the last 3 years... UNLESS you are ALREADY counting 2008 as a victory for BYU, which I HIGHLY DOUBT will happen, lol :)

As much as I love to see Utah with a top ranking, you are out of your mind. If Utah were to run the table this year, there is no way they would be matched up with another non-BCS team. It would likely be a repeat of 2004 - a game against a BCS team that is very lucky to even get there.

National championships are absolutely out of the question for any non-BCS team, even if they destroy every opponent. The BCS is designed to never give any outsider the chance to play for it.

Well, every "barrier" in College Football must be broken... at some point! This year, I think that it will be the "two BCS Busters playing each other barrier" that gets broken, lol :)

"National championships are absolutely out of the question for any non-BCS team, even if they destroy every opponent. The BCS is designed to never give any outsider the chance to play for it."

Just think on the bright side: with each season that passes... that brings us one year closer to a College Football playoff, lolz :)

Jimson, I applaud you for having the guts to stick it out through your entire faux-season, with all of your haters bashing every single article.

However, I have to say that I think the reasoning and analysis involved were poor, biased, and uninformed. And the writing was middle school-level, at best. I have rated every article in your series with a single star, and tried not to comment on them, with the hopes that none would make it to the B/R College Football front page. So I applaud that the series you copied from Justin is finally over.

I also just want to say that I sincerely hope, for your sake, that the persona you have cultivated here on b/r is not your true self, but rather meant as a comic satire of inept writers and sports fans. If that is indeed the case, you are a true genius. If not... God help you.

haha, IF you think that this series was gutsy... Come, and check out my "BCS Championship: Why Kansas Should Be In, LSU Should Be Out" article:

Actually, if you really look into both of our series... You would see that Justin's series is MORE BIASED than my series. I mean, he has Auburn at 10-1, lol :)

"I have rated every article in your series with a single star, and tried not to comment on them, with the hopes that none would make it to the B/R College Football front page. So I applaud that the series you copied from Justin is finally over."

Well, you're strategy did work for the first 15 parts! However, I finally made it on the B/R College Football front page... with two of my final three parts - Part 16 and Part 18, lol :)

In addition, I won the Pick of the Day with Part 8 of my series!

"I also just want to say that I sincerely hope, for your sake, that the persona you have cultivated here on b/r is not your true self, but rather meant as a comic satire of inept writers and sports fans. If that is indeed the case, you are a true genius. If not... God help you."

    Jimson-

Hey, this was a fun read. I don't think they would pit a MTN West vs a WAC team in a BCS Bowl though...they would lose the farm on that. I can see Boise State vs. a Big 12 in the Fiesta Bowl though. That would work.

Have a great vacation, you deserve it after all this hard work. My Trojans aren't in the top ten....sniff, sniff, I hope you're wrong. I have Florida and USC. Wishful thinking. :)

Going by the BCS selection process and your rankings this is how I see it working out.

National Championship would select Florida and Missouri.
Rose Bowl would select Arizona State and Ohio State.
Sugar Bowl would be next to select because they lost their tie in. They get pick over Fiesta Bowl because their tie in team was #1. They would select Georgia to keep SEC tie.
Fiesta Bowl would select next becuse they also lost their tie in. They would select Texas Tech to keep Big 12 tie.
Fiesta Bowl would pick again because they are first in the rotation this year. They would select a West Virginia over a non-BCS school.
Sugar bowl would pick next being second in the rotation. They would either select Utah or Clemson.
Orange Bowl would have what is left because they are last in the rotation this year. They would select Clemson to keep their ACC tie or Utah if Clemson is already taken. Then they would select Boise State or another team outside of the top ten.

I am only going by your top ten. Since you don't list beyond your top 10, there may also be another Big Ten, Big East, and ACC team to choose from depending on their ranking.

To be VERY HONEST with you, I really do NOT think that the season will play out the way my series did... NOR will it play out the way Justin's series did!

Honestly, I think that the season will play out SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN... my series and Justin's series, lol :)

The only question is: WHERE EXACTLY, IN BETWEEN?
