Well the first game of the season is over and Luton Town, who having been in such a precarious position for most of the pre season started their momentous uphill struggle with a 3-1 loss at home to Port Vale.

Its not all bad, Luton Town who on Friday afternoon only had 9 contracted players, made some last minute signings to take this seasons intake to 11 players,a long with the resigning of Keith Keane and Lewis Emanuael.

There was a lot for Luton to cheer about as Kevin Nicholls made his first appearance in a Luton Town shirt since resigning from Preston and with Luton having major delivery issues with their new kit supplier, they played their first game of the new season in a 1988 replica kit, which sported the logo of the once mighty "Bedford Trucks".

So with 6 new faces in the starting line up, Luton took to the field with a solid flowing passing game that has beent heir style for many many years, however a contribution of missed chances and failed attacks and some very poor defensive mistakes Luton lost the Game 3-1, however there were a lot of positives to take from this game.

Kevin Nicholls, although not fully fit was outstanding in midfield, throwing himself into the tackles like his life depended on it, but the stand out performer was George Pilkington, who gave a solid defensive display against his old team mates.

For a team that until Saturday morning, could not field a full first team, Luton can be proud of their performance, but I am sure the silly mistakes will disappear once a better understanding develops

So still minus 30 points but still confident of achieving the impossible
