I can't believe I just wrote that.

Three months ago, Chelsea looked to be dead in the water. After an inept home performance against Rosenborg, though, there was nowhere to go but up.

And that's exactly what's happened.

Thing have turned around for the Blues since they fell behind 1-0 against Valencia in September. In the interim, they've played inspired football.

In truth, however, Chelsea should have had an easier time in a weak group—and but for a great save by Peter Cech against FC Schalke would still be sweating out qualification.

While they have the talent to win a European title, I don't expect them to go all the way.

Winning their group means Chelsea will miss most of the strongest teams as they try to advance to the quarterfinals, but I question whether the team can play consistently enough to move on.

Their current reliance on 1-0 wins doesn't bode well for the Blues' championship hopes.

That said, Chelsea will have a chance to progress so long as they avoid the other English teams. But I, for one, am not holding my breath.
