Well, Saturday was the first scrimmage of the pre-season, and a few things from the stats stood out to me, at least.
- Three linebackers led the team in tackles. Charlie Higgingbotham, Rolando McClain, and Don'ta Hightower led the team with a total of 18 tackles between them. This is good news for a position where Alabama is extremely thin on experience to begin the season.
- John Parker Wilson threw for over 300 yards on just 17 completions. Granted his completion percentage did not see much improvement (17/30), but I will take 300 yds. on only 17 completions all day.
- After another week of practice, the first string should start to take shape. Coach Saban said the team has been working in work groups so far in practice and no starters have been named at the WR position, even though Mike McCoy (who has surprised me), Julio Jones, and Marquis Maze were singled out by Saban after the scrimmage.
- As I have said before, and this probably won't be the last time, Terrance Cody is a beast. Cody was part of a defensive line lineup which continually pushed the offense back on four plays, starting with a first and goal from the one. It wouldn't surprise me if many teams are wondering where they can get themselves a player like TC after they match-up against him this season.
After a day off on Sunday, the team returns to the field for two-a-days today.
Ok, so on to this week's topic.
Last week, we touched on what home game will be the most important for the Alabama Crimson Tide heading into the season.
Well, as nice as it would be, not every game can be played at home.
Alabama plays four games in opponent's territory this year, and none of them are exactly a cake walk.
So, know this, the topic for this week is: Which away game is the most important for Alabama heading into the season?
Will it be a Tennessee team looking for revenge? How about an Arkansas team with a new head coach? Could it be at either of the top 10 teams LSU or UGA?
Who knows, but as always, you can leave a comment below or write an article explaining your choice on this topic.
That's all for this week, guys.
Less than 20 days until kickoff!!!!!
