I was born 1/6/46 and I do remember Pistol Pete and watching him play. My husband used to be jealous when I recited all that I did know about him to our sons. A great article which has brought back memories about more carefree days and actually leaving the house to attend games at the Oscar Robertson Memorial Fieldhouse of Bradley University. Great days those were.

good article, but did you have to include the third to last paragraph? by telling everyone you didn't mention those things, you mentioned them. i'd stop after the first sentence. just say "This is what I feel should be remembered about Pete Maravich." and end it there. just a thought.

I was born in 1995 and remember watching Pete Maravich play for LSU and in the NBA for Hawks, Jazz, and Celtics. I've seen the movie "The Pistol" about his 8th grade year. I have videos of Pete's highlights and his personal testimony of receiving Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Pete was a great talent and ahead of his time regarding ball handling and passing, especially. However, because of his emphasis on scoring points, his teams usually suffered losses. Pete was not that great playing defense and when he dribbled, Pete had the habit of looking at the ball instead of down the court. But Pete was an awesome individual show and talent and I'm grateful I was able to watch and enjoy him.

I like to think that his short life was all he needed. How many years will we need to equal his.

Pete's 68-point game against the New York Knicks was not under the "bright lights of New York," but under the bright lights of New Orleans, in the Louisiana Superdome. It was the one game I got to see him play in person. He fouled out on a "charging" foul as he was taking a shot. When the referee's whistle blew, everyone thought Maravich had been fouled on the shot.

Excellent Article. I really did enjoy all of it. Very interesting to find out some things I did not know about "Pistol" Pete.

Pete Maravich is not the only deceased member of the 50 Greatest of All-time team. George Mikan also passed away, almost four years ago.

I'm planning on writing something on Oscar Robertson at some point. Look for that in the next month or so from me.

Easily was a POTD vote for me!
