The Birds recently dropped a tough one to the Packers, as I'm sure every Eagles fan knows.

All in all, it was a great game. The Eagles dug themselves into a hole early, but when QB Kevin Kolb was injured (Kolb sustained a concussion) and had to leave the game, Michael Vick stepped in to try and make something happen.

And boy, did he ever.

Vick picked up 175 yards and a TD trough the air while also scrambling for 103 yards and a TD as the Eagles lost 27-20. Vick looked a lot less like the second-string QB for the Eagles, and a lot more like the ex-Falcon QB who was arguably the most explosive player in the league.

It was a good performance, to say the least.

But at the most, it just gave the Eagles more confidence in having him as their backup.

Because Kevin Kolb is still the starter.

The only way that changes is if Kolb fails the NFL concussion test, in which case he will be out for two games. Even so, Kolb will return as the starter (though if he can't play for two games, his return will be scheduled for the Eagles-Redskins game, which the Eagles may consider splitting time between he and Vick).

Because to be a Super Bowl contender, not this year, but in the ones following, Kevin Kolb needs to be the QB.

Why?

Well, for one, the Eagles have already built a team around him, and he is an entirely different player than Mike Vick. To again change the way the team is built will take another year or two, which most Eagles fans, like me, will be too impatient to wait out.

And if the Eagles want to rebuild this team after Donovan McNabb, Kolb is the right man for the job. It just makes sense to do it around a guy who's 26, as opposed to a guy who's 30 and relies on his legs for half his game.

So guess what Philly?

Vick's great performance means nothing.

And guess what else?

Kolb is still the starter.
