Scott Speed Wins ARCA Thriller in Nashville
For the third time in four ARCA REMAX series races, Scott Speed rocked his way to Victory Lane, this time vigorously strumming the Nashville track's famous victory guitar.
It was a wild race from start to finish. The field barely took the green flag when Gabi DiCarolo spun out on lap one, heavily damaging her No. 90 Great Clips car.
Frank Kimmel, who took a wicked hit at the last race in Pocono and suffered a concussion, took advantage of the caution to exit the car as per his doctor's advice. Nephew Will Kimmel, son of crew chief Bill Kimmel, took over the reins and piloted the car to a 21st place finish.
For the majority of the laps in the ARCA Toyota 150, the top three Toyotas of Sean Caisse, Justin Allgaier, and Scott Speed were locked in a heated battle. They traded the top spot on the track as well as on and off pit road.
But with 21 laps to go in the race, Sean Caisse got into the back of Justin Allgaier following a slow restart, spinning Allgaier out completely. Crew chief Billy Venturini was livid and set out to let the No. 01 team of Caisse know of his displeasure.
Scott Speed, however, took full advantage of the action in front of him and positioned himself firmly in first place. He then proceeded to check out for the remainder of the race.
The drama continued as James Buescher and Dexter Bean tangled, bringing out another caution and forcing a green and white finish to the race.
On the re-start, Sean Caisse hit hard into the wall, finally limping along to finish 16th after having led for most of the race.
Scott Speed again found familiar territory in victory lane, winning the hard fought battle in Nashville. Jeremy Clements finished second, with Scott Brown in third. Matt Hawkins was in the fourth spot and Justin Lofton rounded out the top five finishers.
Speed also lengthened his points lead to 140 points over Matt Carter for the championship battle. Speed acknowledged that his Red Bull team had struggled this weekend, but they ended up on top through hard work and a little bit of luck. A fresh coat of polish on his toenails probably did not hurt either!
