Marlins "Catching" Up To Phillies

The Florida Marlins have added some catchers to their roster. Veterans Paul Lo Duca and Brad Ausmus have both been claimed off waivers. Ausmus' deal is a little more complicated than Lo Duca and since the transaction has not been announced, it is unclear if he would also be given a minor league contract. Lo Duca ,however, will report to Triple-A Albuquerque and either catch or DH most likely on Saturday. This will be Paul's second stop in Florida, if you remember in 2004 he was involved in a trade that sent pitcher Brad Penny to the Dodgers.

Earlier this year Paul Lo Duca was hitting .230 with no home runs and 12 RBI's with the Nationals. As of right now the primary catchers are Matt Treanor and John Baker. Paul was not upset with the demotion stating that, "John and Matt have done an excellent job. I just want to be a guy who can make a contribution."

This year in Houston Brad Ausmus has a .235 average with 1 home run and 18 RBI's.

These additions would greatly help the young catchers in triple-a with some outstanding catchers showing them the ropes. Not to mention they're both great hitters and someone should be back in the majors with the September call-ups.
