Buffalo Sabres general manager Darcy Regier announced today that the Sabres have re-signed defenseman Teppo Numminen to a one-year contract.

Numminen missed almost the entire '07-'08 season while recovering from the open heart surgery he had in September 2007 at the Cleveland Clinic. This will mark Numminen's 21st year in the NHL.

The 40-year-old was originally taken in the second round (29th pick) by the Winnipeg Jets. He is the only active player taken in the 1986 draft.

Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
