A source from Canada is reporting that the Calgary Flames are ready to give an offer sheet worth $4.5M to stud defenseman Marc Staal.

Apparently the rumor is coming from a French Canadian radio station and the guy who reported it (Patenaude) is usually spot on with his rumors. As mentioned in my previous articles, New York Rangers GM Glen Sather has stated that he will match any offer sheet given to Marc Staal. $4.5 million would not be a problem for the Rangers since Wade Redden will most definitely be in Hartford in less than a month.

Whether or not the rumor is true, the Rangers need to re-sign Staal soon. An offer sheet would help speed up the negotiation process as the Rangers would match almost immediately. For now, all the True Blue could do is wait.
