Well, this year must be the season for transfer sagas. First, it was Inter trying to bring in Lampard from Chelsea, then it was Real Madrid trying to coax Ronaldo away from Manchester United.
Now, it’s Chelsea trying for Robinho from Real Madrid. Chelsea reported "Further to media reports, Chelsea Football Club can confirm we have made an offer to Real Madrid today for the transfer of Robinho," on their official website, www.chelseafc.com.
There has been much speculation that Chelsea would try and go for Robinho. Today, that became a reality as the Blues put an official bid in for the Brazilian striker. No official details of the bid are out yet, but it is believed that Chelsea is offering $38.5 million (20 million pounds) for him.
According to a Spanish newspaper on Wednesday, Robinho, who is only 24, wants to leave Real Madrid, stating that he did not feel welcome at the club and that he was disappointed that they had not allowed him to participate in the Olympics. Chelsea has been very interested in Robinho and the chief executive, Peter Kenyon, says that Chelsea is hopeful to sign the striker.
Chelsea may be influenced to sign Robinho by the Portuguese international, Deco, who recently joined Chelsea from Barcelona. Deco told manager Luiz Felipe Scolari to sign Robinho at any cost.
When asked about Robinho, he said, "Robinho is a spectacular player. He's got incredible skill," Deco said. "He has magic and is capable of anything on a football pitch. His quality is amazing. It would be great if he joined us and he'd be made very welcome here."
