I've been prompted to write this article by someone stating that Robbie Fowler is a bigger legend than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
I could not believe what I was seeing, I argued black and blue that there is not one single thing that puts Robbie ahead of Ole, the person was obviously a Liverpool fan and he is sticking up for his player but its a bad call to say that RF is better than OGS across the footballing world.
Don't get me wrong Robbie Fowler was a talented striker, I'm not denying that, but a legend above Solskjaer is the worst statement ever .
Anyway , seeing as though I couldn't get my point through in comments I decided to do a little head to head article to see who comes out on top. No prizes for guessing who wins in every sense.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Clausenegen FC 109 apps 115 goals.
Molde FC 42 apps 31 goals.
Manchester Utd 235 apps 92 goals.
Norway 67 apps 23 goals.
Total At club level: 386 apps 238 Goals.
Robbie Fowler
Liverpool FC 236 apps 120 goals.
Leeds United FC 30 apps 14 goals.
Man City FC 80 apps 20 goals.
Liverpool FC 30 apps eight goals.
Cardiff City 13 apps four goals.
England 26 apps seven goals.
Total At club level: 389 apps 166 goals.
Ok so Robbie wins the club appearances by three matches, you would expect him to, he has played at two more clubs than Ole (inclusive of his return to Liverpool).
Ole wins the appearances for country by 41 games over Fowler, and has 16 more international goals than Robbie too.
Ole wins the goal's total at club level by a pretty hefty 72 goals.
Verdict
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer clearly wins the appearances and goals section by a long chalk, so no sign of this legend Robbie Fowler.
Let's move on to the honours section, maybe Robbie will be better there .
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Premier League winner, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2007. (Six)
FA Cup winner, 1999 and 2004.
League Cup winner, 2006.
UEFA CL winner, 1999.
Intercontinental Cup winner, 1999.
Community Shield winner, 1996, 1997, 2003, 2007.
Robbie Fowler
League Cup winner, 1995 and 2001.
FA Cup winner 2001.
UEFA Cup winner 2001.
UEFA Super Cup winner 2001.
Verdict
Oh dear, still this "Legend" Fowler is miles behind with only five Winners medal's compared to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's 15 medal's, yes that's right 10 more medal's in the cabinet.

silly, silly comparison. bet you have a rag kit on under your clothes.
your league goals comparison is a joke. ole played in a feeder league for 146 of his club goals. had he been in a top european league he would not have scored half as many goals, as his goals per game rate at united shows quite clearly. not to mention that the pure goals to game ratio is skewed, as robbie fell out with management at liverpool and made substitute appearances as well. a goals to 90 mins comparison would have been much more accurate in terms of their importance to their clubs, a comparison robbie wins if you had taken the time to check for yourself. not to mention that ole's sub role actually made it easier on him, a point you so easily avoid.
then you go on to compare medals but ole was not a primary, central, and key figure in so many of his clubs successes, unlike robbie. besides, this really is an issue of club management and talent, and resources available, not their individual worths. and to include the community shield shows your blatant attempts to pad your arguement. it's a meaningless medal and everyone knows it but you. guess what, he only has 6 more medals now, and considering the resources and direction of the two clubs, this really comes out a scratch point.
and international success...are you joking??? had robbie been norwegian he certainly would have acheived what ole did and then some. ole did not have to compete with shearer, wright, cole, owen, teddy and on and on and on.
and your coke snort point....WAKE UP....that's a big part of why so many consider him a legend!!!
finally, i have to say, this is going to come down to a club vs club argument. to people who support other clubs they are both legends, to others, its a matter of exposure and opinion. it's just too bad you didn't fairly compare them, otherwise you may have convinced me, but....

No mate i think you will find Ole's goals were scored in the Premier league and the Norweigian First division , which is the equivalent of our championship , so its still a tough league .
So what if Robbie Fowler fell out with the managment , He still Didnt make as many Substitute appearances as Ole Did He ?
No he didnt . Which still makes Ole's performances as sub more impressive than Robbies records .
How did i avoid Ole's role as sub ? i Mention it in the article that it was out of choice Ole was a substitute , that he watched for opposition weakness and then exploited them weaknesses to devastating effect .
And even so if Robbie was a more key role than Ole , Fact still remains that Ole has a lot more medals than Robbie , the rest of the Liverpool squad cant be blamed and Robbie get none of the blame . Thats just mindless , its a team game , so it was Robbies fault he didnt have success just as much as it was the others faults.
He has TEN more medals , can you count ? Charity shield Still yields a player a winners medal , no matter how insignificant the competition is , obbie does not have one of those either .
Why is the Coke snorting thing Legendary ? so your telling Me to advertise Cocaine in front of a nation was Clever ?
Something to be proud of ? I really do not think so . Put ot thi way i certainly was NOT impressed , and i bet Parents of Liverpool fans who looked up to him werent too impressed either .
You sir are Scum , You think its ok to advertise Coke in that way on a National stage , Your the one who needs to wake up .
Typical Bindipper , only too happy to promote drugs .
I did fairly compare them and the fact is , Ole is the bigger legend , Simple as, end of story .
He is a legend to you lot across that muggy city , but outside Liverpool , he is not regarded as anything such a legend .
Whereas Ole is a legend Worldwide and thats what it boils down to , success and status , Robbie had neither .

I'm a Sunderland fan (and not biased by Keane being in charge), and i think that Solksjaer is hte only true legend. Robbie Fowler's career could have been so much more if he had followed the professionalism of his Man Utd counterpart and that is why I cannot class him as a legend. Since the age of 26 when he left Liverpool Fowler has been a disappointment and again stops him from being called a Legend.

Thanks for your comment Greg , a totally Un Biased opinion there , and that now makes it 4 - 2 in Favour of Solskjaer , im sure the figures will rise .
Indeed Robbie Fowler could of been Much More . As ive stated , this article is not against Fowler or attacking him in any wa, it is a response to a comment .
I regard Fowler as a good striker back in the day . but there were MANY ahead of him .
The Worst thing Ole Solskjaer did in hi time at Man Utd was get Sent off for upending a player who was clear , if anything that to me is Passion , the Kind of thing Roy Keane did many times , he sacrificed the next 3 games to keep United in the Lead .
Fowler on the other hand Pretended to Snort Coke , that is digusting from a so called " Professional " , and in no way were his actions that of a legend ,
Over their full careers Ole Was the Better Player and is now the Bigger Legend of the Two .
Again Greg , Thank you .

well, what a load of morons you lot are. john is the only one with his head screwed on straight.
norwegian 1st division equivalent to the english championship, are you nuts?? even so, thats 140 goals less than the total you gave, and the charity shield is a joke. so i agree with john that its 6 medals more....what next the johnstons paint trophy as a medal?
and i agree ole coming on fresh in the 75th min gives him a clear advantage, further padding his stats. he let all the others do all the running for him....what a legend in deed.
and advertising coke??? pull your rag head out of your arse mate. you're as dumb as those twats at the f.a
i guess cantona isn't a legend either than, you idiot, cause he promoted brutal violence and assault to all the little kidlets around the world....bollocks, that furthered his legend.
robbie is the bigger legend, end of. and just because i think so doesn't make me a scouser, i'm not, i actually support spurs, but fowler takes the cake, easy.

"He's someone I always looked at when I was younger.
"When the Premiership Wonder Years were on television, Robbie Fowler would always be on there with Alan Shearer and Andy Cole.
"They've been the main three in the Premiership, Robbie's been part of that. He's a great finisher with a great footballing mind and I'll learn a lot from him.

Ok. First up, I'm a Liverpool fan, so yes, I am definitely biased towards Fowler. Having said that... in terms of medals, Ole wins. He is actually one of the few united players i can actually say I liked and admired. But I do have a few points to pick with you.
Firstly, how was Ole able to choose to be a sub? If he was good enough to start, he would have opted to do so. If someone like Gerrard came up and said he would rather warm the bench, I would personally question his commitment to the team. It would be different if you had said he was happy to fulfill that role, which would suggest that he would rather be playing every game for the full duration, but was loyal and humble enough to accept his designated role, one which he fulfilled brilliantly.
Similarly, can someone, who as you said was mainly a sub, rightly be regarded as a worldwide football legend? I wouldnt think so. Sure, being a 'super-sub' for an extended period of time, and scoring important goals will warrant legend status at his club, but i wouldnt translate that to worldwide status (David Fairclough springs to mind). I suppose, though, the argument is who is the bigger legend between the two, but just wanted to make that point.
Also, I dont think the goals comparrison is justified with the difference between the clubs they played for. The english league is tougher, and in playing for leeds or man city, in average teams, against the likes of Liverpool, United, Arsenal, ect is tougher than whoever ole regularly faced while at coppenhagen or molde. These stats should be weighted to reflect a more accurate comparrison.
Regarding the line sniffing incident... it was horrific, and I dont condone it, but it is(slightly) understandable when put into context. Fowler was having a go at the toffees after scoring a goal in a heated merseyside derby, in response to them accusing him of using the drug. people do stupid things in the heat of the moment (roy keane springs to mind, though he nor a few united fans i know would think so). Fowler was rightly given a hefty fine as punishment, but his jibe was taken out of context. Dont forget, he risked further public scrutiny for supporting the dock strikes... that i would say is admirable.
In the end, ole wins by virtue of service to his club, and that goal in the champions league final. he did quite a few other noteworthy things, but the fact is that he got worldwide exposure for that goal. Fowler was also impressive... scoring 5 on debut and holding the record for fastest ever PL hatrick are fantastic achievements, but they wont (and havent) translate worldwide.
Good article though. Produced some heated responses, which is a good measure in my books.

Jeff you are one of the Few Sensible Liverpool fans on this site .I commend you for that , well done for not letting your Love of Liverpool blur your vision on the subject at hand .
This article was in no way an Attack on Robbie Fowler , it was a response to a debate i had with someone .
I said Fowler was a decent striker , and i understand how you idolise him , as liverpool fans .
But if we all stop supporting our respective team for one minute and answer the question Honestly , then i think Ole Will win hands down .
The thing with Ole being a Sub , you will have to watch the Video where Fergie Talks about it , He explains how Ole's mind was set to come on and change the Flow of a game , to open up opposition weakness , he could see from the Bench what our other boys couldnt spot on the field , It wasnt in any way Lack of motivation .
I know the english league is tougher , but at the end of the day Scoring Goals at any Level is not easy , even in sunday league , so as they say , what counts is putting the ball in the onion bag .
Also Ole's goals helped to bring more success than Fowlers did in terms of winning tournaments , and that surely is the point here ?
Listen Mate , that Tackle of Keano's on Alfe Inge Haaland was Nasty , no need for it , im a United fan and im saying it was wrong to do it , especially seeing as tho he says he meant it .
But i also remember Keanes In Tunnel Row with Patrick Vieira Over picking on Gary Neville and that for me was a true captains Actions .
Your right about the Coke snorting thing , i know we all make mistakes , it just got me when someone said it was part of his legendary status , saying that is condoning his actions .
5 on a debut is fantastic , i wont deny that one mate . you have to be a good striker to score three , let alone 5 , but didnt someone beat his Hat Trick record time last year ?
But Ole scored 4 in 12 minutes in only his second game at United and he came on as a sub .
Anyway Greg Thanks for your input , and you certainly are the politest of the LFC fans .
And the fact that you have picked Ole shows that you are thinking with an open mind as opposed to one of a fan of your club .
If i was NOT a Man Utd fan , id still say Ole is the bigger legend of the two .

choose to be a sub, referes to him not joining any other team in the premiership cause lets face it he would have been first team. Fowler at his best was an amazing striker, so yes he will always be a legend for that period of time, but to be a real legend you have to keep that form and be consistant and professional, and in my opinion he has not been able to do that. His 7 or 8 years at anfield will always be remembered. Fowler is a legend of english football, Solskjaer is a legend of english football. Choosing i have to go with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, a true professional and consistant performer throughout. Respected by all.

But there are Many Better Strikers this league has seen than Robbie .
Bergkamp , Zola , Henry , Van Nistelrooy , Peter Beardsley , Alan Shearer , the list goes on and on ....................... .

In all honesty i think the term 'legend' has been thrown about far too generously. There seems to be confusion between 'legend' and 'well recognised'. Neither has a bigger claim to 'legend' status, as neither has been consistently brilliant in worldwide or continental competitions. It all boils down to ole being better known outside of England, Fowler having a better individual record in England, and both being legends to their own fans. klaar.

Mark, you are trying to slant this in your man's favor. I would buy your argument if you actually presented a fair case, but you're not.
"Hang on a minute , Did Robbie Fowler not score Goals in our championship ??????????????"
Yes, he has 6 Cardiff goals, which you only just added to his totals. If we're being fair to the word legend, all of these lower league goals should be thrown out, though, and only real genuine top flight goals should be considered.
"I dont Care What Leagues they were OR were NOT in , im Looking at both players Goals Totals , Appearances and honours and The Fact Is............... Solskjaer Has Won It !!!!!!!!"
Then why didn't you included total goals and honors, Mark? You only included league goals, why? Cause you have been very selective in what you included in your argument, that's why, because it serves your argument, that's why! What about cup competitions, player of the year awards, and man of the match awards... do these not count toward total goals and honors? Do these not distinguish you as a stand out player?
Fowler has 16 goals in 23 F.A Cup matches.
Ole has 8 goals in 30 F.A Cup matches.
Major advantage Fowler
Fowler has 22 goals in 25 League Cup matches.
Ole has 7 goals in 11 League Cup Matches.
Advantage Fowler.
Add up our real totals then, using an unbiased source. According to the BBC:
Ole
Career app: 410
Career goals: 158
Fowler
Career app: 473
Career goals: 216
Add in the fact that Fowler has 2 major individual awards, ole has none. Advantage who?
If you are going to break down numbers than certainly Fowler has the advantage. You just can't count a mickey mouse league if you want to use the word legend. That said, in all honesty, neither should be considered worldwide legends. But then, you never said worldwide did you? In the English game, it's Fowler, end of story.
Edit Comment Cancel
mark andrew 11 months ago
Well for starters Ole has two individual awards too , two of much higher value than robbies PFA player and young player of the year awards . .
I dont know where you get them statistics from .
The totals i presented were Ole's FULL TOTAL in all comps , Same with Fowlers .I Really dont know where your source is for them figures but they are wrong , Solskjaer didnt even make 410 appearances for man united !!!!!! If he had of done hed of been close to Giggs total , but he is no where near 410 .
I think you will find that Fowler has won 5 medals in his career , Ole has 15 . Thats the true figure .
And your talking of Mickey Mouse ??????
Who was it who won the Mickey Mouse Treble and started raving like you were the best thing since sliced edam ?????
One thing that you are mising out on is can robbie claim he was an integral part of a team that won the MAJOR treble , the biggest treble you can win ? NO he cannot .
Whereas Solskjaer can .
There is no point me arguing with LFC fans , you will stick up for your man no matter what , plus your hate for united will cloud your judgements .
You see we dont really hate LFC as much as you hate us , Why ? because we are better than you so we need not worry , and we definatly have more legends than you , FACT .
Ole is one of them errr FACT .
Waste of my breath arguing
20LEgend is all i have to say .
And Teacher , The UEFA cup doesnt come into this, It was a Mickey Mouse Treble and you know it

Ole was a super sub, and one of 2 or 3 united players i actually like, dirty rags that they are (I support blackpool), but i still say Fowler takes it.
He was the terror of the prem for a solid half decade, striking more fear into defenders in his best years than ole ever did, period.
And the Champions League argument is silly. They both won major Euro honors, one more important than the other granted, but one also figured more prominently in his clubs success than the other.
Neither are true international legends, though. SO what to do... analyze their England careers and reps, and I still think Fowler comes out on top. At least it's a consensus in our teachers dorm.

Make it 11-10 in favor of God.
Easy choice really, one played regularly as a starter with an outstanding goals to game ratio, the other was a sub, with an inferior goals to game ratio in top flight footy.
Yes the medal count goes to ole, but we all know that has to do with club v club debates, not individual ability or status.
I think the comparisons of O'shea and silvestre are compelling, and the reps they have within the English game means it tips for Robbie.

Mark, now you are outright lying.
Those goal totals listed by Matt are right. Check the BBC site yourself. They are club totals, not only United or Liverpool totals.
I personally have 230 goal clips of Robbie's, if you'd like to see them. Check youtube ffs. His totals are 216 in all comps, ALL comps! No argument. Do your homework next time you want to wax like mr know-it-all!
You only listed league totals but are presenting them as career totals. Robbie passed Dalglish for 5th all-time scorer at Liverpool, ending with 185, more than you listed him having in his entire career! How's that? Yeah, we're going to take your slanted and incorrect totals over a trusted source like the BBC.
Anyone reading this, check for yourself. It's easy.
Type Robbie Fowler Career stats BBC then do the same for Ole. See?
Mark is picking and choosing what he includes in the argument and what he doesn't.
And notice how once the vote count swayed against him he starts acting like a child with his comments?
Notice how he never thanks anyone with an opposing opinion for posting?
He just wants to hear what he wants to hear.

Acting like a child with my comments ??????????
I beg you to read the Bottom of Gregors Post , How in any way are any of my comments more childish or disgusting than Him calling me a Fat bastard who ate all the pies ??
Thats just wrong and disgraceful .
All along ive never personally abused anyone like that or on that scale .
Outrageous .
I think you will also find i thanked a Liverpool fan Who was POLITE .
The people who are not civil , dont get a civil response .
And ok , So Fowler has more goals than Ole , Big deal .
Fact Remains Ole is still a bigger Winner out of the two , more medals and a bigger legendary status .

ok, so i fudged things. So what if I slanted the argument?
ok, so i included all of the meaningless medals my guy won but didn't include the meaningless ones robbie won. So what?
ok, i made this less about the individuals and more about the club, caught me!
and resorting to insults about someone's name is something i would classify as childish.
real stand up work, mark.
and gregor, you should be ashamed, that was a low blow and there is no need for it, even if mark was quick to throw out insults himself.
AND btw, were many of the pro-robbie posters not more than polite, Mark?
as a addicks man, i still chose robbie.

I did include Fowler Medals !!!!!
How were The medals meaningless ????? UEFA Champions league medal , meaningless ??? is that a joke ?
Robbie has an INFERIOR Uero medal to Ole .
Robbie has an INFERIOR tally in league medals too .
In fact , like i said all he has won are INFERIOR Mickey mouse medals , none of his medals are superior to OGS's .
The only thing i overlooked was the cup goals , woweeeeeeeee , it still doesnt make up for the fact that Robbie had MUCH LESS success than OGS , and still boils down that it is Mindless to consider Robbie ahead of OGS .
I know who id rather have , in fact there are 30 strikers i would pick above Tubby Fowler .
If you read down the comments there is only one message that is disgusting and that is Gregor's post .
I said the word Bindipper , that refers to not just one person .
It doesnt Warrant a Personal insult , And he was talkin crap anyway , how does he know anything about my waistline ? my head is only in my picture , In fact why is there no picture of any single person who stuck up for Robbie , makes me wonderif it is just a few people with multiple accounts .

i'd take fowler anyday, ole would just warm the pine as he did his whole united career.
wowwee! less than a hundred prem league goals....bit part player who lucked out on a top team, yeah, a worldwide legend.
neither are worldwide legends!
in 10 years time fowler will still be talked about as a prem legend by those involved in english football. a place in top flight history will be his.
ole will still be looked at as a good player who scored some good goals off the bench.

I can say that at least 6 of the guys posting above and voting for Robbie Fowler live in my dorm and chose to post because they felt that not only was the argument made in the article error ridden, but that final conclusion was just flat out wrong.
None of them had ever even visited this site before.
We all ended up sitting around and discussing this for hours, with Spurs, City, Blackpool, Liverpool, United, and Doncaster supporters all throwing their weight behind the argument that Fowler will undoubtedly be remembered in the top tier of Premier League strikers, regardless of how injuries curtailed his career. And yes, I said United supporter. (He talked of the palpable fear felt inside Old Trafford when Robbie came to town and was on the ball for the first 7 years of his career, a fear I personally have never heard a Liverpool supporter, or any other supporter for that matter, voice about OGS)
We pretty much decided that because the Prem League is the most popular and most watched league in the world, this made him a legend beyond Liverpool.
Now, we drew the line at calling him (and OGS) a worldwide legend because that category should only be reserved for the best the world has ever produced, but when comparing the two, who both made their names in the Prem League, we found absolutely no solid reason to place OGS above Robbie, as we all felt individual performance trumped team success when comparing two individuals, especially strikers who see so little of the ball unless the team around them is capable of breaking down defenses.
We did, however, find some compelling reasons to place Robbie ahead of OGS, most of which have already been mentioned. The fact that he presently sits as the 4th highest scorer in the Leagues history behind only Shearer, Cole, and Henry, all Prem League legends in their own right, we felt that alone wins this argument. To be in that class of players means legendary status, regardless of what some supporters of other clubs may feel, imo.

wow that seems like a resounding win to god there mark, yet you see he is winning by some way so you decide to disqualify all his votes?!? dont make me laugh! and you said the norweigen clubs he played for are the equivlant of the championship clubs?! clausenengen were a third division part time club, so 115 of his goals can be chalked off straight away, and if you really want to add a biased view by keeping the molde goals in then do so, fowler still comes out on top. funny how you didnt include the personal awards won by each player (the most important thing for comparing two players) as fowler comes out on top for that! and i mean footballing awards, as we are judging them on football after all.
and about the cocaine snorting jeez get a sense of humour. ok, its not clever doing that clebration (although he still denies it so it may not have been a reference to coke at all), but its not as if he was actually snorting coke, or went on tv after glorifying it! you say cantona and zidane are still classed as legends for actually harming other people, but fowler is a silly immature man for not harming anyone?
you say ONLY liverpool fans consdier fowler a legend, yet many non liverpool fans have voted for fowler. but of course thats some big conspiracy and none of them count! oh and you can add my vote to gods ever growing tally.

Still a decent thing to win but not the major treble .

how the hell can you say that is a fact, you have no idea what ever football fan in the world thinks! so no, it is not a fact. and enough of the conspiracy theory please mark! your getting awfully boring and monotonous in trying to find an excuse. I bet if we did a WORLD vote, Ole will be left in Fowler's dust. looks like we've got ourselves a bet, gather all the fans in the world and lets see.
and no i wont justify gerrard diving (although you singling him out is ridiculous as there are an awful lot of players who dive more than him, perhaps you should look closer to home?), but almost every player in the last decade has dived (yes including solskjaer!)
the only FACT here is that of the people that have been asked who is the bigger legend, the majority have said fowler (despite you guaranteeing me in a comment on my piece that solskjaer would win), so the closest thing we can do to a world vote on here comes up in fowler's favour, yet you still try and deny more people think fowler is a legend then solskjaer. the evidence is right in front of you!

Ok then i Truly Believe instead of knowng , that Ole will come out top but im sick of arguing now , your guna stick up for Fowler no matter what the actual truth is .same way round here .

The only Wanker to be frank is you by getting annoyed enough to post utter shit like that , but then again your a Loserfool fan , and that says it all.I wont be answering your scummy comments after this one because your an absolute Knob head .
At least Barney and the rest ( except Gregor) didnt abuse me in a personal way , they abused my choices and thats ok , thats what we are here for if we dont agree , your just the lowest of the low and quite rightly i agree with Damien below when he says you shouldnt be here .
Whats up ? 18 years and counting gettin to you ?
No it wasnt my way of directing the conversation .
Someone actually said im a hypocrite , so i pointed out that they need lessons in understanding the meaning because what he pulled me on wasnt me being hypocritical but sticking to my guns . so i gave him an Example of a hypocrite and Steven Gerrard was that example .

YOU USED THAT LANGUAGE FIRST YOU OVER-SENSITIVE FOOL!!
YOU CAN CALL PEOPLE TWATS AND BINDIPPERS BUT I CANT CALL YOU A TWAT AND A WANKER WITHOUT YOU WHINING LIKE A BABY?? GROW UP!
And of course the 18 year wait is getting to me, but it has nothing to do with me posting comments here. The only reason I have commented here is that the author of the article has no integrity.
I don't expect you to respond to this though because you have already said twice that you wont.
You and Damien need to learn to read, especially you Damien. Take a look at the guy you are trying to defend, he is the one who has repeatedly resorted to name calling to back up his flimsy position.

and since when is wanker swearing?
it is a common, everyday term, certainly more acceptable than twat, which mark seemed more than willing to use!

I'd say Fowler, just cause he could do it for 90 minutes and was good enough to start. And compared to other United strikers he just isn't as good.

Simple as this really, all Liverpool fans will battle to the death for Robbie, because they see him as a legend, despite the fact that a lot of people don't. Most see Ole as a legend, and United fans will battle to the death for him. No-one can really win here because all United fans will vote for Ole, and every other fan will vote for Robbie or anyone else in-spite of how good or bad the player may be. I personally can't remember much of his golden days so I'm not really going to mae a strong vote.
Many United fans see someone like Eric Cantona as a legend, whereas I think he is one of the most overrated players to grace our game. Liverpool fans will agree, whereas if I said that, I don't know, Steve Macmanaman, for instance, was in the same category, they would defend to the hills, if he is regarded as a legend by them, I don't know.
The point I'm trying to make here is United fans will back their man, and everyone else will deliberately go against it.

Michael what you say is a valid point but what mark here is failing to account for is the other non Liverpool and no Man U supporters who have posted their opinion,
Mark tally the votes see who is on top and by how much, then you can still keep your opinion but know that of those around you.

My word this is silly .
How can any one say Robbie Fowler is a Bigger legend than Ole Solskjaer .
Robbie won nothing special , He scored a lot of goals , so what !!!
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tops this by many many miles , and im a Nottingham forest fan , who likes liverpool and manchester united , but Ole for my money .

These arguments have been hilarious, classic Scouser v. Manc banter. Even as a LFC supporter, I have no problem saying that Ole was an amazing player, but comparing him to "God" as a bigger legend is laughable. He did score some important goals and has a bucket full of medals, but be easy throwing the word legend around. The comment about not even being the most feared striker in his own squad is priceless. Count this vote for a true legend, Robbie Fowler, from an actual bleacher report user.

This is ridiculous .
Ole Solskjaer is a Much BIGGER legend than Robbie Fowler . And im a Man City fan , he used to play for us and as much as i appreciate what he did there is not a chance he is a bigger legend , Mindless people to think otherwise .
And some of the language from Matty and Gregor is absolutly disgraceful , calling a person twat and Fat bastard is not on .
As someone new on this site i would ask you not to write things like that again , idiotic people .

i called mark a twat because he used that language first. i figured if he was man enough to throw that term around, he was man enough for it to be thrown back at him.
read the comments more carefully.
as for gregor, his comments are bang out of line. couldn't agree more.
and you, sir, are the idiot. mindless people have differing opinions from you?

This thread has been abysmal from start to finish.
A terrible, completely biased and selective article, followed by predictable disagreements and counter-arguments, followed by both sides resorting to insults and prejudices, neither will ever back down so what is the point?
Do you even know what you are arguing about anymore?
Their have been disgraceful comments on both sides about an article that is not worth the pixels its written on.
I am not even going to offer an opinion, to be honest I don't care who is a bigger legend (what does that even mean? They are both club legends, end of, can you even be a bigger legend? surely legendary status is the maximum you can achieve, and as both have it with their clubs, what more is there?).
The one word everyone needs to look up, and particularly the author, is objectivity.
I always say he who resorts to personal insult has lost the argument, and as both sides resorted to personal insult at various times, I guess that means everyone lost here?
“A mature person is one who is does not think only in absolutes, who is able to be objective even when deeply stirred emotionally, who has learned that there is both good and bad in all people and all things, and who walks humbly and deals charitably” - Eleanor Roosevelt

I'm dissappointed as to how this discussion has degraded into a slagging match. Regardless of who started it, ad hominem attacks have no place in debates such as this, and serve only to make the insulter drop a bit of credibility. Save the club-bashings for other forums.
Mark, I still have a few questions.
Personally, I feel that in a comparrison between two individuals, it is individual records that should hold the most credence. Of course, as this was your article, it is your prerogative to include whatever statistics you feel necessary, but they will be picked apart in order to establish objectivity. As such, I dont feel a medal count is an accurate reflection of Fowler or Ole's status. Granted, Ole personally holds a lot of medals, but that is a reflection of a team's achievements, of which Ole was a valuable member, but, again, only a sub. It is an individuals contribution that should hold more sway, in terms of appearances, goals, assists, ect.
Being "the polite Liverpool fan" referred to in a few posts, I'm not sure I have been represented accurately. As I stated above, I agree that Ole wins in term terms of medal count, and that he is most likely more 'recognised' worldwide (by virtue of his CL winning goal). Fowler, though, comes out tops in terms of goals to games ratio, and in my mind is more revered in England because of those stats.
Also, I dont think that people's opinions should be discounted for the mere fact that they joined 'just to comment on this article'. Regardless of when they joined, they should not be penalised for being newcommers. Such sentiment comes across as a tad elietist.
Ultimately, this comparison is hinged on the criteria you used, and is subjective. The issue will never be resolved to any degree of satisfaction.
