The NFL preseason has started.  Some fans look forward to it just because it's the first NFL football since early February.  But many fans hate it with a passion.  Why?

  • The games are completely meaningless.  Your team could go zero and four in the preseason and then finish the regular season 12 and four or 13 and three and win the Super Bowl.
  • Too many starters get hurt.  It's every NFL player, fan, coach, and owner's worst nightmare to lose his team's star player in a game that means nothing.  That's why coaches give their starters very limited action in preseason games.
  • There are too many games.  Four is waaaaaay too many games for a team to play in the preseason.  Two would be better, or at most three.  But not four.  Playing so many preseason games only increases the chance that a key player will get hurt.
  • The games are boring, yet for some reason, major TV networks like ESPN still televise the games in prime-time TV slots.  Take tonight, for instance —ESPN put a Saints-Cardinals game on at eight PM EST.  There's gotta be something better than that that the network could air.
  • C'mon, ESPN producer —you know that the preseason games mean nothing, and as a result the starters will only be in for a few minutes.  Use your cameras on better things.

Please, NFL, make the preseason shorter for the good of everyone.
