We continue our tour of preseason waiver wire gems with the linebackers. There are a bunch of them out there who have very promising opportunities. I could easily list 50 in my recently updated seasonal LB rankings. The problem with this math is only 10 LBs finish in the top 10.
Even so, I’m seeing many guys that are going undrafted in my leagues who have no business being available. There are also some intriguing sleepers who are worth watching closely and pouncing on if they begin to awake. After the top studs, don’t be afraid to churn your roster if you start liking one of these prospects more.
David Hawthorne, Seahawks – People must be staying away from Hawthorne due to the return of Lofa Tatupu and the uncertainty surrounding the new coaching regime in Seattle. Well, it’s all straightened out now.
Hawthorne is going to play every down as Seattle’s weak side LB behind an untested defensive line in what will most of the time look like a 4-3 defense. Tatupu regains his value as the starting middle LB, but Hawthorne will have more tackles. Aaron Curry goes to the less productive strong side while Leroy Hill faded into oblivion.
Last season, Hawthorne was a top ten LB in most of my leagues, even without starting until Week Eight. He has top five upside when he is starting from Week One...
