R.I.P. Tomizawa - Sadly killed doing what he loved!
Moto GP rider Shoya Tomizawa has died earlier today after a crash at the San Morino Grand Prix.
It is a great shame to report of the 19 year old's death. The Japanese star came off his Suter team buke when under pressure from Italy's Alex de Angelis.
The two riders closest to Tomizawa: de Angelis and Redding were unable to avoid hitting Tomizawa, who was propelled off the track and into the off road gravel.
It was first reported that Shoya had passed away on the track but in fact Tomizawa was airlifted to one hospital and then to the Riccione Hostpital on the Adriatic coast where he died of his injuries. Tomizawa suffered cranial, thoracic and abdominal trauma.
He had been in only his second season in the world championship, having stepped up to Moto2 from 250cc. The Japanese star made history by winning the first ever Moto2 Grand Prix at Qatar and took pole for round two.
My thoughts and im sure the thoughts of the world go to Shoya Tomizawa and his family at this sad time. May he rest in peace.
