St. John's move back in the college recruiting game, bringing home a kid from there own backyard. Maurice Harkless, a 6-foot-6 wing who starred at forest Hills HS and will attend South Kent (Conn.) prep school this fall, Harkless verbally committed to new coach Steve Lavin on sunday and made an announcement on Tuesday. The 6-6 swingman wanted to stay close to home and ultimately chose the Red Storm  over Maryland, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Florida and Oregon. In Harkless get of the city best talents, according to one assistant coach involved in his recruiting. "By his sophomore year, he will be a high-level player in the Big East," said the coach, who considers Harkless an NBA prospect "without a doubt" down the road. "He has a lot of tools. The sky's the limit for that kid." This a big step in rebuilding process for St. John's and coach Lavin.
