Gertrude "Luna" Vachon Rest in Peace: You Will Be Missed
Today I turned on my computer and did my normal rounds of checking wrestling news sites to see what was happening. I was shocked to learn that Gertrude Vachon, also known as Luna, passed away.
I sat in awe of what I had read on my computer screen. A woman who was one of the most successful, influential and unique women's wrestlers had been found dead at her mother's home.
Luna had recently lost everything in a fire at her home. Many said it was lucky she was not harmed in the incident. A campaign on the Internet began by Mick Foley asked fans to send items to Luna related to her days in the squared circle.
I wrote an article echoing this sentiment because Luna Vachon was by far the toughest women I ever had the pleasure of watching wrestle. She had an intensity that few people could live up to.
Her family had wrestling in their blood as both her father and uncle were legends in their own right. Luna was bet known for her time spent in WWF back in the 90's.
She had a unique look with her trademark mohawk and paint. She would often paint veins on the shaved parts of her head, which added to the value of her character.
She feuded with Alundra Blayze over the WWF Women's Championship, that feud churned out some of the best matches of her career.
I would like to send my condolences to the family of Gertrude Vachon. She was a legend who will be remembered as one of the toughest women on the planet.
Rest in peace Luna.
