When I got the email for this week's "Open Mic" saying to pick your favorite team and name an all-time lineup, I was really excited. There's only one problem, there are so many great players to play for the New York Rangers that it's hard to choose just one starting lineup. So instead of just six players, I went the whole nine yards and did an entire lineup; four lines, three defensive pairings and two goaltenders. I hope you enjoy.

Line Two: Mike Gartner-Wayne Gretzky-Steve Vickers

Line Three: Jean Ratelle-Phil Esposito-Rod Gilbert

Line Four: Bill Cook-Bryan Hextall-Bun Cook

Defense One: Brian Leetch-Brad Park

Defense Two: Ron Greschner-Jeff Beukeboom

Defense Three: Harry Howell-Ching Johnson

Goaltender One: Mike Richter

Goaltender Two: Eddie Giacomin

  1. Line 1 should be Cook-Boucher-Cook...the best line in NYR history. Hands down my friend. Otherwise its pretty good except Ratelle would be better suited for the middle but I am very happy with what you got here. It is tough to make an all time team with so many great players.

  2. yaaaah beukeboom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. ah this is a sick list. a team that's been around for 90-some years is gonna have a kick ass all time list. great job greg

  4. I'd choose Messier, Boucher, Ratelle and Esposito as my four centres and Rod Gilbert would be my #1 right winger. Also I don't think Gartner would be on my team. He only played 4 seasons for the Rangers. But a great job of an almost impossible task.

    1. In that case, Wayne Gretzky shouldn't be on this team either.

  5. I don't care if he only played a couple seasons as a Ranger Jaromir Jagr is one of the best players ever and led the Rangers the couple years he was there.

  6. i like this, a little different from my, but most of the same players. i'm glad you've got beukeboom too, he is the man

  7. if you want to include a head coach, it would have to be emile francis

  8. Barry Beck.... Better than everyone you listed on D with the exception of Park and Leetch. Also would add some size and toughness. I love Buek but he was not in Beck's League as a player or Fighter. Also Doug Harvey would be on my list at D as well. Also in todays game a guy like Gresh could not keep up skating wise... look for someone like RUOTSALAINEN, to rush the puck (Gretz said he was the most talented guy in the game back in the day and maybe the fastest guy on skates next to Bobby Bourne.
