Strikeforce Confirms Nick Diaz/KJ Noons II for Oct. 9
Nick Diaz will face KJ Noons for Strikeforce on October 9th.
Strikeforce has confirmed to Bleacher Report that Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz will face KJ Noons to main event their San Jose, Calif., show on Oct. 9.
This will be a rematch of their November 2007 bout for the now defunct EliteXC organization, a fight Noons won by first-round TKO due to cuts.
The subsequent controversy involving families and verbal jabs raised interest in a second fight, but it never came together.
The 27-year-old Diaz is on a seven-fight winning streak and won the organization's vacant 170-pound title by beating Marius Žaromskis in January. The belt will be on the line, Diaz' first defense.
Noons is also 27 and is on a six-fight winning streak, last KO'ing Jorge Gurgel last Saturday at Strikeforce Houston. He recently returned to the sport after a near-two year absence.
The company slipped Tuesday by including a reference to the fight in an email marketing newsletter.
