Paul Hewitt's Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets face an unfamiliar situation this season.  Instead of having a bench full of players, the Yellow Jackets have a relatively thin group of starters.

The Jackets lost three big time contributing seniors last year in Anthony Morrow, Jeremis Smith, and Matt Causey.  The Jackets also lost their top sixth man recently when senior RaSean Dickey signed a pro basketball contract in Ukraine.

While this may not be a great year for Tech basketball, the Yellow Jackets will be a dangerous team as always—and there is hope for the future.  Tech has two promising sophomores in PG Moe Miller and F Gani Lawal.  Coach Hewitt also has a few good upperclassmen in D'Andre Bell, Lewis Clinch, and Zack Peacock.

Tech is also looking forward to bringing in a very talented and promising recruiting class for the 2009-2010 season.

  1. Dickey leaving will hurt but, Tech will be fine. The rotation of Hewitt will have to be modified and this can only help a team whose players often look lost on the court because of so many substituions and changing of defenses. Too much thinking. Pitino said he won at Kentucky because he provided the players with the opportunity to play. Basketball should not require as much thinking as it does anticipating and reacting.

Peacock provides a defensive post presence and is quite capable of neutralizing the baseline. Clinch must recover his touch but, that can happen when a light is swiched on. Bell is a more than adequate defender on the ball and off. Lawal will have to settle down and play the game against people with as much talent as he possess, this is a challenge to a young potential superstar. Miller needs to be as steadying an influence as Travis Best while providing the explosiveness offensively of a Will Bynum. This will be the challenge to a dangerous Yellow Jacket squad.

I would look for Ga Tech to go back to the NCAA tournament again.

Good to have your commentary in the Bleacher Report.
