Recently this past week the Pittsburgh Pirates were involved in a series of trades. One included a trade with the New York Yankees and another was a three way trade between them, Boston and Los Angeles. The only trade that anyone is interested in was the Yankee trade. The Boston L.A. trade involved us trading away LF Jason Bay and if your into Pirates baseball then you knew that he was going to leave next year anyway. But the trade with the Yankees was the stupidest thing that I have ever seen in my life. Xavier Nady was a .310-.330 hitter and he was our RF. Coach John Russell traded away our best relief pitcher Damaso Marte who was undefeated as a relief pitcher and was the only Pirate pitcher with and ERA under 3.50 who is not hurt. At the beginning of the season John Russell was doing quite well and still is the Pirates are the closest they've ever been to .500 in about 5 years. But this trade decision was one to forget about. Since Nady has become a Yankee he has hit 3 Homers and has driven in 10 RBI in about 6 games. No one on this earth could star someone in the face and tell them that this is not an all star caliber player. John Russell has defiantly brought this team up from consistently in last place. Now he is in the fight for 4th in the NL Central. He has helped our hitting even though he has traded Nady away and Bay. It is the Pitching Staff that is killing the Pirates. Now that Marte is gone there is no one except for 3-4 pitchers who has a record of .500 or better. That is a major problem. Nady was the number 5 hitter and played a major role in this struggling organization. Now that he is gone the only hitters Pittsburgh has to rely on is Nate McLouth and Ryan Doumit who are also all star caliber players and could easily fill the spot of former teammate Xavier Nady, But there is still a need for a 5 hitter in the Pittsburgh lineup. Who could we have to replace him? Adam LaRoche? No, he is one of the most inconsistent hitters that this town and baseball has ever seen. Andy LaRoche, his brother? Sure if you want a guy who hits .230 for his career and only has 4 homers in his entier life as a big leaguer. But one decision that John Russell will do right is replace Nady with newly aquired OF Brandon Moss from the 3 way trade with Boston and L.A. He will fill the spot of Nady and he is very young, so hopefully that means that this team we all call the Pathetic Pitching Pirates will not trade him until his contract is up.
