As I sat in front of my television Monday Night watching Raw, that annoying sound indicating an incoming e-mail from the general manager made me wonder, "What Now?" Alas, it was something that I actually wanted to hear.
The Raw GM announced that the Unified Tag Team Championship will now be known as the WWE Tag Team Championship, and new championship belts were presented to the reigning champions, The Hart Dynasty.
But, my joy was short lived as Bret Hart came out carrying two of the worst designed championship belts I've seen since that green monstrocity that The Iron Sheik wore as WWE Champion. Despite the camera not getting a tight shot of the belts, that was all right with me.
I admit that I'm a little old school and I don't adapt to change easily, but in my opinion, WWE jacked this one up pretty good. Gone is the trademark eagle that has been a staple of WWE belts for years; in it's place are Spartan helmets. I don't know how Spartan helmets relate to WWE, but I guess that's my problem.
The belts also appear to have a copper or bronze looking finish, instead of the traditional gold.
The design will probably appeal more to the younger audience who WWE targets, so I guess that works for them. Maybe I'm a little premature with my opinion, as I said the same thing about the spinner and I ended up buying the replica for my collection.
But having said that, I don't think I'll have any second thoughts on these belts. I've included a link to the Wrestling Superstore where they have images of the replica version.
What do you think of the new WWE Tag Team Championship belts, love 'em or hate 'em?
