French striker Nicolas Anelka has been handed a ban from playing at the International level for 18 games thanks to an argument he had with former coach Raymond Domenech at the World Cup, which then led to his team going on strike.
The strike made France the of the joke tournament.
The Chelsea player had an arguement with Domenech at half time during the team's 2-0 defeat at the hands of Mexico. After the confrontation it was reported by the media, which led to Domenech sending Anelka home.
His departure was the main reason behind the strike by the rest of the French team. Now the disciplinary commission has chosen to all but end his international career. With an 18-match ban, it is going to be a long time until his next international game.
Captain Patrice Evra has been banned for five matches for leading a boycott of a training session in protest against Anelka's departure, while Frank Ribery was banned for three.
France were the laughing stock of the whole tournament, and now after their bad timed tantrum they face the consequences.
