Carl Edwards Is the New Beast

Michael VoyerSenior Analyst IAugust 3, 2008

Carl Edwards made a pit stop before the red flag flew for rain. It turned out to be the right call.

While Kasey Kahne and Mark Martin had no choice but to make a final pit stop with five laps to go, Carl ran the race to finish with the win. It seems as though Kyle may have a challenger for that title after all.

And speaking of the points leader, guess what—he had to pit with two laps to go and that put him one lap down.

It was a very disappointing day for the points leader, but a day up for his teammate Tony Stewart who was the runner-up. A great job and a team effort by the No. 20 Home Depot team.

As for Daytona 500 champion Ryan Newman's 14th place finish, it's great to see him in the top 15. There are more of those to come.
