Bring 'Em Back: Top Five Light Heavyweight Champs Of All Time

Matt OffermannCorrespondent IAugust 16, 2010

The Light Heavyweight Championship was the title that did not last long at all. In all there were a total of only 11 champions. I only put the top five because putting 10 out of 11 doesn't make sense to me.

5. Taka Minchinoku

Taka takes No. 5 for being the first ever champ. Even though right now he is probably just a trivia answer being the first ever champion is always a good thing.

He beat "Grandmaster Sexay" Brian Christopher in the first ever tournament for the belt. After he held the title for 10 months before losing it to the No. 4 wrestler on the list.

4. Christian

Most people are probably thinking why is he at number four. I put him on fourth, not because hes my favorite wrestler, but for another reason. This title match was his first ever match in the WWF.

I don't care who you are that is impressive, especially against a guy who held the title for almost a year. The future Captain Charisma held the title for only a month before losing it.

3. X-Pac

X-Pac is the other person alongside Dean Malenko who has held the title twice. The last-ever holder of the Light Heavyweight belt takes the No. 3 spot.

2. Dean Malenko

Dean is only one of two people who have held this belt on more than one occasion. Malenko held it twice. The first time beating Essa Rios and the next time beating Scotty Too Hotty, whom he lost the belt just 10 days prior to winning it back. In total both his reigns lasted a little over a year.

1. Gillberg

This has got to be the only list of wrestling that Gillberg could take the number one spot. Although he only won the title once it was the longest reign in Light Heavyweight history, lasting 15 months.

So these are my ranks, what are yours?
