How many times have we seen it now? The critics to quick to pick up their pens and declare Roger over. Time and Time again, the great one finds a way to come back to establish his presence on the tour. When will the critics finally give up and declare that Roger Federer's career will be over when he decides it's over, not anybody else.
With the hiring of a new coach, he has added another important tool to his mastermind; more brain power to help him vanquish opponents. For a long time, Federer's aim was to be the greatest tennis player ever.
We all know that having such a lofty goal may be empowering for a time, but eventually will deflate the mind of a person who holds such an aim. The GOAT argument looks back at history but forgets what is happening now. When Roger Federer finally decided that it was enough to simply be the World's Greatest and not the GOAT, he hired a coach and is on his way to becoming that again.
Federer has shown that he can achieve anything he puts his mind to provided that the goal is something sustainable. With perfect fundamentals, and a hard working attitude, he will sail again towards victory. His career will be over when he and Mirka decide it's over. Until then, he can, at any moment, decide and attain the status of World's Greatest Tennis Player.
