Another Liverpool Season... Is Robbie Keane Enough To Grab Silverwear?

karina kaurAug 2, 2008

Liverpool FC have yet to ever figuratively speaking win the Premier league title. It’s all very well challenging being in the running and one may even say strong contenders for the Champions league trophy, and also have what it takes to win the FA Cup, but year in and year out we hear the same promise from the contemporary manager that this year will be ours..

I’ve waited, oh how I have waited to wipe the smirk of the Manchester United fans’ faces, but all of this has been in vain. The fact that we haven’t even been able to beat Manchester United in a League game, for an embarrassing amount of time shows that we need to step up our game if we are actually going to be a serious challenge.

I personally find it embarrassing that last year we were fighting for the fourth position, especially against our derby rivals Everton but also by the likes of Spurs and Man City, who have all stepped up their game, with a passion to play Champions League football.

The fact that I had to hold my breath to know whether or not we could even compete in that competition last year showed me that Rafa has promised so much but has yet to deliver on it. OK, so I respect him for taking us to the legendary Champions league final in 2005, a night which a true fan will not forget in a hurry!

Nor will I forget that exciting FA Cup final the following year against West Ham. Though the fact we had to really fight to win the cup from the team that in the consequent year was fighting off the relegation battle set of warning lights in my head!

We have invested good money for the likes of the top striker we have in our club Fernando Torres, and he has been influential and a well loved sporting hero for our club. Though one begs the question is it enough?

It has proven not to be last season, even though Torres managed a second spot in top scorers we ended up in fourth position in the league. Was that because Rafa kept him on the bench during the beginning of the season or was it because he still seems a tad too quiet for my liking when it comes to facing tough clubs?

Perhaps I am being too harsh, especially as I vouch to love and adore Torres myself, I just hope that the support he will receive from top striker Robbie Keane will really up our game.

I am excited to see the partnership of the two guys develop and to see the part that the likes of Mascharano, Babel, our hero Gerrard amongst the rest of the team will have to play in this season.

Will it be another case of rotation or will Rafa break from his stubbornness and stick to a formation that works!

Only time will tell, but lets hope that this season we are not trailing for the fourth spot but actually contending and challenging for the title which belongs in Anfield.
