The View from H'eer: Time for West Virginia to Eat Crow

All the Mountaineers had to do was beat a mediocre Pitt team and a berth in the BCS title game was theirs. Yet, par for the course in this wacky college football season, things didn't go as planned. What went wrong for West Virginia? Major Kelchner examines.

Mark S. Hawkins/Icon SMIWest Virginia blew it.

Nothing else to say.

It was Mountaineer Nation's worst nightmare.

Pitt executed their game plan, they controlled the ball, they forced turnovers and played great defense.

The Pitt D was as good as WVU's offense was bad.

We could play the "what if" game all night, but it doesn't change the outcome.

Pat White got hurt, yes.

Had he been healthy the whole game, would it have changed things?

I'd like to think so, but, as well as Pitt executed their game plan, it's hard to tell.

It comes down to two easy chip shot field goals, which would have left things tied up at 13—and a horrible showing on offense.

I predicted a thrashing and a ticket to New Orleans.

I was wrong, and I have a whole buffet of all you can eat crow in front of me.

  1. There is nothing WVU fans can say about this.

Not White's injury, he played 25 minutes before he got hurt and they didn't score.

And for crying out loud that officiating was brutal. Pitt won that game 11 on 18.

It was a fun game if your team wasn't involved, and I applaud you Major for being able to realize that WVU got beat and that's it.

    Have fun in the OB.

  2. To lose to Pitt is a disgrace. I can't believe that the voters sent them to the Fiesta Bowl. They don't deserve to play in that game, which will be evident by the A##WHOOPING that they will take from Oklahoma. Way to close out the year in typical WV style.........
