Are they NBA players playing for the love of the game and to win or just for the large contracts? This is becoming an issue in the NBA. Some of the old school players who help make the NBA what it is today are questioning the players and their love for the game. So do they play for the love or for the money?
The NBA was once made up of superstars who only cared about winning a ring. Teams like the Celtics and Pistons who would do anything to win. Players like Jordan, Bird, Johnson, Ewing ECT. When players like Michael Jordan are quoted numerous times as saying "I found more guys playing not for the love of the game, but for money and prestige," He has also said "Players today worry more about who is being paid the most money and gets the highest recognition. I was never about that," he continued. "Those things happened to me when I least expected it. I never expected to be the player I became. I wanted my skills to be among the best. But once I worked hard and the skills developed, everything else just took care of itself”.
Another example of taking the money and not the best chance to win was newly appointed Head Coach Mike D’Antoni selected to join the troubled Knicks for 24 million dollars over 4 years. (6 mill a year) He could have been with the bulls (who have younger + better players) and had a chance to win. But Chicago couldn’t offer as much doe so Mike D. opted to the Big Apple.
NBA players would rather make $$$$$$$$ then win. Players are choosing to go to Russia to play because of more money. Players hold out of camps for money. This doesn’t help you win a championship. So do they even love the game? You tell me.
