Another day, another Mats Sundin rumor. Various sources have reported today that the New York Rangers may be on the verge of adding the reclusive Swedish star to their club for next season.
Our good friend Eklund over at HockeyBuzz.com reports today that the Rangers are talking with the Phoenix Coyotes and Edmonton Oilers about a huge deal in order to clear cap space so they can sign Sundin.
This is all rumor and conjecture at this point, obviously—but we'll keep our eyes open for further developments.

Wishful rumour mongering from a Rangers fan... although Sundin going to NYR does make a lot of sense and is as much a possibility as him going to any other team... I'll believe it when I see it.

P.S. for the record... I hope he ends up anywhere other than Vancouver. He's over rated at this point in his career. Also see: Top 10: Reasons why Mats Sundin isn't a Hall of Famer http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/17404-.html

That trade rumor is bogus. If the Rangers want Sundin they will have to dump salary...the Oilers are almost at the cap while the Coyotes are at their self imposed cap which happens to be the cap floor. No way it involves those 2 teams.

Don't believe it people; Eklund is the primary source for this rumor. It would take the trading of a big contract in order for the Rangers to sign Sundin. My money is that he retires or goes back to Toronto.

No salary cap space in the world to bring him to New York.
