This morning, ESPN reported that a four team trade was in agreement between the Rockets, Hornets, Nets, and Pacers.
The deal sent Trevor Ariza to the Hornets, Troy Murphy to the Nets, Darren Collison and James Posey to the Pacers, and Courtney Lee to Houston. The deal is in very advanced stages and will likely be approved by the NBA tonight.
What does this mean for each team?
For the Rockets, it's mostly a salary dump. The Nets get another big that helps their frontline and a huge expiring contract. Indiana gets the starting point guard they really wanted in the speedy Darren Collison and James Posey.
For the Hornets, it means Chris Paul will definitely not be traded this season.
Earlier in this offseason, their were countless rumors that CP3 would be traded because he is unhappy. People said that Darren Collison was out to get his job, and the Hornets thought he was the future.
In a meeting a couple of weeks ago between the Hornets and Paul, New Orleans told Chris that they wanted to keep him and were committed to building a winning franchise. Nobody believed any of it.
Now with this trade, we know that they weren't lying.
The trade makes the Hornets less deep at the PG position and gives them uber athletic Trevor Ariza, who helped the Lakers win a championship a few years back. Ariza is a young star entering his prime.
Will the Hornets make the playoffs next season?
I'm not sure. However, I am sure that Chris Paul will be staying in NOLA for at least one more season.
