Draft night was a special night for New Jersey fans. Nobody really knew what to expect with the 10th pick in the draft, 10th is sort of the awkward pimply teen ager working at Gamestop of draft picks. Its a great pick, but its past the sure fire superstar portion of the draft, the player selected here could be a great player for years to come, or...the next Patrick O'Bryant. Late mocks displayed mixed predictions with no clear player jumping out as there definitive pick. I personally was hoping Danillo Galinari would come to town, though I was skeptical he would fall, other options included Jarryd Bayless, Robin Lopez, Darrel Arthur and Brandon Rush. To be honest, I never thought about Brook Lopez in a Nets jersey, early mocks had him in the top 5, later mocks had him going to Charlotte, I liked him in college and loved his game, but there was no chance he would fall...right?

As the 1st few picks came and went I was pretty nervous, this was the 1st draft I had seen live since 2005 (due to being at camp) so it was a refreshing change from the 8 hour epic that was the NFL draft. By the time the 9th pick rolled around I was ready, fully expecting Charlotte to take Brook Lopez. When Commissioner Stern announced the drafting of DJ Augustin I freaked, immediately Instant Messaging my friend Justin, "THE NETS ARE GONNA TAKE LOPEZ!!111!1". I was shocked, I was sure Lopez was going 9th, Charlotte needed a big to play along Okafor, it seemed like a perfect fit. The place went crazy, the draft took place in NYC, but it felt like it was in New Jersey, I was loving every second of it. Brook Lopez took to the stage to shake Sterns hand, his brother Robin all ready being interviewed back at his seat. I got a call from my brother who was holding down the fort in Florida, he didn't know alot about College Basketball so I filled him in, he was feeling the Lopez love too.

Hilarious "highlight reel" of Lopez's draft night

I loved the interview he did with Stephen A, he sounded like a giant, the California accent (which threw me off guard) only further cemented my full on enthusiasm for Brook. He seemed like a really chill guy who was excited to play for the Nets. I really have no idea how to end this blog, so.....
