The New York Yankees are the epitome of what a sport franchise should be. There is no other sports organization in America that even comes close to the class of the Yankees. One could make an argument about the Los Angeles Lakers or the Boston Celtics but a quick answer to that is, the Yankees have not allowed any other team in Major league baseball to be in their league of winning world championships.

Now I am no Yankee fan, in fact I am a die-hard fan of their “baby brother”, the New York Mets. Most Met and Yankee fans don’t get along mainly because neither fan gives the other team any credit. Lets discus; if the Mets are having a better year than the Yankees (which is extremely rare) the average obnoxious Yankee fan just says look at all of our championships. They do this for one simple reason; they don’t want Met fans to have any happiness. Met fans are not innocent by any means, as Metropolitan fans enjoy when they see their “big bro” not reach his goal (which often is just falling short of making it to the World Series). The Mets will always strive to be better than the Yankees but deep down they know that is impossible.

The Mets and every other sport organization out there need to strive to be better than the Yankees, even though they all know it is impossible. The Yankees are baseball and that’s why they are the best. They are that super villain that makes the superhero look so much better. The Yankees are so good because they relish being hated, they relish having the highest payroll in baseball, and they relish making all baseball fans outside of the “Bronx” cheer when they lose. The 2003 Florida Marlins, one of the biggest underdogs in World Series History, had the whole nation rooting for them to beat the evil empire of the Yankees. The Fish did just that, and it was like seeing the Batman beat the Joker at one of his evil plots, it brought balance to the world. One of the smallest market teams in baseball beat the king of the high rollers.

The Yankees make baseball what it is. They bring that super villain vs. super hero element to the MLB. Everybody loves watching the bad guy, and that’s what the Yankees do they bring ratings. The Yanks are such a successful franchise that it causes me to respect them even though I do not like them. They truly are the kings of baseball.
