Today, we break down the deal that shipped Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte to the Yankees.
Nady and Marte were dealt to New York for Phil Coke, George Kontos, Jose Tabata and Ross Ohlenhorf. Both are promising prospects who could contribute to the Yankees in the future or act as trade bait.
If at least one of the 4 players Pittsburgh acquired steps up and plays well, they could win the deal. But Nady and Marte are sure that won't happen. Nady has power and doesn't strike out too often, and he will add depth to the Yankees outfield.
As always, the Yankees have been busy at the deadline. They also acquired 14-time All Star Ivan Rodriguez from the Detroit Tigers.
Which deal worked out better for the Yankees? It's hard to say, but since Rodriguez's career is almost over, I would say the Nady deal. He is nearing the end of his prime, but he can certainly contribute to the Yankees.
