UFC 117 Fight Card: Thiago Alves Will Annihilate Jon Fitch

Colton WhittemoreCorrespondent IAugust 7, 2010

Welcome fight fans, to another edition of B/R MMA's famed Creature vs. Creature. In this edition, Dale De Souza and I will be doing the UFC 117 fight between Thiago Alves and Jon Fitch. I will be taking the side of Thiago Alves, and Dale will be siding with Jon Fitch.

With that, let us begin.

When Thiago Alves was going into his fight with Georges St-Pierre, many believed Thiago Alves would be the man to dethrone GSP as the best welter-weight in the world. He had solid takedown defense, brutal striking, and when he was taken down, he was able to get to his feet quickly.

Of course, GSP derailed Alves and his hype train, and now, over a year later, Alves is returning from his lopsided loss. His opponent? Jon Fitch, a man who fought and finished Alves four years ago.

Thiago Alves has grown so much as a fighter that making any comparisons to himself four years ago is an inaccuracy and shoudn't be done.

If Thiago Alves can keep himself from being taken down repeatedly by Jon Fitch, then I see no reason why he shouldn't win this fight. Of course, that is easier said than done. However, Thiago Alves faced off against Josh Koscheck, an All-American wrestler, and wasn't taken down all that often.

I think Alves has virtually every advntage on paper, which is why I'm prediciting a first round KO win for him.
