Born in Kamloops, British Colombia, Riley is the son of Greg and Shannon Nash. He has an older sister aswell as an older brother. Riley became a student in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Riley Nash saw his career begin during the 2007 NHL Entry Draft when drafted 21st Overall by the Edmonton Oilers. He had not signed with the team. On June 26th 2010, Riley was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes. That trade also involved the Ottawa Senetors. The deal sent the 46th pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft defenseman Martin Marincin to the Oilers. On July 19, 2010 the Carolina Hurricanes signed Riley to a 3 year deal.

Both for 3 years, Riley played for the Salmon Arms Silverbacks and Cornell Big Red. Last season, while playing for the Big Red, Riley recorded a total of 36 points and 39 penalty minutes in a total of 30 games. In 102 games, he has a total of 103 points, which is a total of playing for both teams. When playing for Salmon Arms and Cornell University Riley had the chance to play with his older brother, Brendon.

Today, the 21 year old Carolina Hurricane rookie, didn't get the chance to show what he has to offer on an NHL level yet. Riley is optomistic that this year is going to be the year.
